I just came back from a long UK train journey, fortunately for me avoiding London.
But the rail line from London Waterloo to Reading has failed. Reading is 30 miles west of London and the main commuter hub for very populous area whose people would have flooded in to see funeral today.
Reading station was mental 2 hours ago, surely even worse now. I was so lucky.
I had to commute into New York City, lower Manhattan, for 20+ years, and fortunately, I think only two times did some major event (weather for me, but the big blackout for others; excluding 9/11 of course) cause all the trains at Grand Central Terminal to shut down. I got there, saw the crowds, and went back to my office downtown and waited a few hours before the online info indicated things were back to normal. Sounds like this UK situation could be about 10x worse.
