Don’t these firemen know how lithium reacts with water?
Wow, yes. I don't know much more about extinguishing fires beyond my fire extinguisher is rated for electrical and oil fires, but for firemen, that should be expected.
Unless the aim was to maintain the temperature lower so the fire didn't spread more.
I believe electric car fire protocol is literally that, "we can't stop it so contain as much as possible"
When the batteries go up. They have a bad habit of reigniting after being extinguished
looks like a model Y ... ?
They should recall Teslas for public safety and pollution issues when they catch fire.
Lithium batteries are not currently suitable for cars.

That is 95% water?
If the car is on dirt firemen will try to dig a pit if there is heavy equipment nearby (like a backhoe), and push the car in the pit. Then they will fill the pit with water. Takes WAY less water that way.
Tesla Fire Pit
Beyond stupid. Dig a pit yes, but fill it with the car and excavated earth.
Lithium is a monofuel it doesn't need oxygen for combustion, it reacts violently with water, the only way to put it out is to bury it under sand or earth.
If this happens indoors it could be a disaster.
I recall that when the Hoverboards came out they caught fire as well.
wait until it happens to a row of teslas or other ev's in a high rise say in manhattan.
