..when you have to upgrade your iphone but you couldn't care less. the flashy gadgets don't sway me like they used to, the excitement isn't there and i can't shake the feeling that i'm helping tim apple's corrupt empire.
guess i'm on the right path

Husband has an IPhone 8+ also. I told him by the new year Apple won’t be upgrading 8’s anymore and he’ll have to give up his home button too. If he didn’t need a cell for work he would not get a new one. I know he’s going to hate the 11 Pro Max that I have. He always has me get the the newest one and he takes my old one!
Hubby and I do similar, except I get the old ones. He upgraded recently and mine's still good, so I gave his newer older one to a relative.
I’ve had an Iphone 8+ for like five years now and I don’t know what I would upgrade to if it kicked the bucket on me. Don’t want any ducky google phones, don’t want any always glitchy and never reliable samsung phones (sister was constantly getting hers replaced), and I don’t want any of the newer Iphones because they took away my physical home button and thumbprint scanner and replaced it with their face scan bullshit.
That and I paid like $400 for my 8+ years ago and now it’s like $900-$1200 for a new one? It’s just crazy how the past five years have gotten so crazy and expensive with phones when we still have 1080p displays, like wtf?
I’m still holding onto my old Iphone 8 and will ride it until dies, but I would like to get a new phone one day, preferably and android so I can just pull photos off without needing the overly complicated bullshit of Itunes. I hate Itunes... lmao
I'm with you. I've always looked for durable stuff that will hold its value and benefit me well into the future. I couldn't care less about new and shiny stuff. Food, vehicles, home, and weapons are all durable and simple. Almost everything I own can be fixed at home with simple tools and a manual. Live small and smart, not reliant on others and out of your means.
Amen, brother! Forward !
I used to watch each keynote with rapt attention. Now I can't be bothered.
Maybe the same applies to the engineers too—these days I can't even tell which model is which anymore, there's so little innovation.
i'm with you, apple's events are so steeped in symbolism too. i won't pretend to ignore the fact that the iphone was released in september's ritual week

LOL!
Having been an apple evangelist around 2005-2012 or so, I am so happy to not have any more devices from them since. Apple is the IT version of "the devil wears Prada". Only my mum still uses Apple, she doesn't want to change. She has an M1 Macbook Air M1, the display broke, we contacted our trusted non-official Apple repair guy, he said he can't do it, since Apple codes serial numbers of displays somewhere and only them can change it with proprietary tools - for 500 EUR.
I’m with ya! Typing this on an ancient iPhone 8 lol
Pft. I have a flip phone. 😋
Show off 🙄
I only have a land line.
We bow to your magnificence!
.- -- .- - . ..- .-. ... / -.- . -.-
And an IPad
I miss texting with t9 one handed without looking at the phone. Flip phones are practical.
I was very unhappy when my flip phone finally died. The only real benefits I'd miss on smart phone is ability to research instantly (like in a store, during a conversation, etc), the maps and screenshots for recipes, memes and interesting info.
8? I have a 6! But updating is getting iffy so I'm shopping for the 14 in the hopes of NEVER ever needing another phone. If I ever do, maybe a landline.
i looked at the 14/14pro and i was so put off by the apple fanbois (i call them the cupertino cult) all hyping up the most basic of features. the price and the stock levels have made me think twice!
Well, then you’re basically a Luddite 😁
Luddite? I've been around computers a lot of years. Have written a couple of computer programs. Using computers before windows and mac OSs. Texting people before there was such a thing available to the general public. No interested anymore. Just use that which makes my life easier and I don't find a lot of technologies fall into that category.
The smiley face emoji was your cue that I was just funnin’ with ya.
As in, your technology is so old that it isn’t even really technology anymore. Perhaps I over thought it.
Apologies if I offended you, fren.
You wasn't offended me AT ALL. Not even a tad bit. You were right as of these days. Like it that way.
I agree. I spent most of my career on the phone and computer and now that I’m retired a land line and IPad suffice.
My cell phone has become my flashlight, camera, alarm clock, appointment reminder, book reader and Postal rejection. Also do all my bill pays, weather reports, gps, dictionary and encyclopedia and my Entire recipe files.....& a plethora of apps I probably don't need. Now if I could just get it to fire ammo.
