this is so true it hurts. and when sent to lib friends, they just ignored and changed the subject and yuou know theyre thinking "Florida deserves it theyre probably conservatives" and they feel ACTUALLY validated in that fucking absurdity.
This was a hurricane like many, many hurricanes before it. We get multiple hurricanes every year. My mom was in Punta Gorda. Her and my aunt were eating dinner as the eye passed over them. They, like many others in hurricane prone areas, have a generator. They have flooding. They have plenty of food as Floridians are veterans at getting through these storms.
My point is, quit falling for the fear porn. This was a hurricane and, while destructive, wasnt anything special as hurricanes go. Andrew and Katrina were, this wasnt.
Folks have no idea how bad Ian was. I've lived on Pine Island and Cape Coral since 1996 but happened to be in Austin when this came. I can't go down there now - it's too devastated. My inlaws house on Carambola in St James City had Gulf of Mexico waves going over the top of it.
It just took a weird turn right into the islands and then sat there for 8 hours. That as many homes survived those winds is testament to Cape Coral and Lee County having strictest building codes in the country. Anything older than 2005 got damage.
It wasnt worse than two of the worst hurriIcane disasters in US History. How can you compare Ian to the destruction in Homestead, which was wiped off the map, and New Orleans? I have family in Punta Gorda. My mom ate dinner as the eye passed over. My Aunt said this was the same as Charlie a few years ago that went over the same area. Her house had more damage from Charlie than Ian.
All of Charley could fit in the eye of Ian. It's not just me saying Ian was worse than Katrina. It was a guard guy who was at both and I posted the link. Officially, Ian is ranked as the 4th worse in the county's history. Punta Gorda is not Sanibel, FM Beach, Pine Island, or Matlacha. The comparison is unfair - your folks in PG weren't in the eye and probably not on the coast if they didn't lose power.
Your Aunt had more damage in Charley because it came onshore in PG. Ian came onshore in Lee County, not Charlotte County. The damage is very comparable to Andrew. People had more warning with Andrew though.
You’re kidding, right? Reports are coming in of certain areas smelling like death because of all the bodies floating in the water. Power poles snapped like twigs and the wiring just GONE. Entire islands and neighborhoods will probably never be habitable again. This was an act of nature, not one of Newsom’s planned blackouts.
Also didn't see toxic femininity, meeee toooo's, LGBTQIAXYZ'S or the future is queer nit wits armed with chain saws or bulldozers cleaning up the mess, thank God for MEN
ehhh at least the previous narrative was that electric tech was good and being suppressed by big oil. now lately conservatives have turned and said electric tech is being pushed by big corporations.
to me it's both, I think EVs can be good but how they've been rolled out might be bad. EVs have been around for a century and are about as efficient as back then
I think how this plays out right now is ebikes might be useful for smaller trips, gas vehicles for longer or more powered
This is racist!!!!
And sexist!!!!!
And beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
And MAGA!!!!!!!

It was worse than Katrina and possibly Andrew too.
Speaking about Pine Island (Lee County) specifically, “I did response after Katrina,” said Julian Bell, chief warrant officer for the Coast Guard. “This is worse.”

Ten days of darkness in some areas, you say?
Florida is the new California. No power and people are asking for government handouts left and right. Even DeSantis.

This is so racist and homophobic. Wtf!
I know my 300k miles prius could have made a huge dent in relief efforts.
Had a weekend showing of the new bro romcom movie to watch, tho.
Sorry, Florida.

It is our duty to SUBDUE the earth. Mother nature can smoke a fatty.

And yet the Resident chose to visit Puerto Rico, which isn't even a state.

I think the e-bikes have a speed governor you can remove/disable.
The point being - let the market decide.
