If I were paying 2Grand a month on diabetes medication I would be VERY motivated to change my diet and lifestyle.... It is crazy people would pay that when the most common form of diabetes is literally just a dietary problem.
Exactly, lay off the sugar, and I mean all of it. Start eating delicious cuts of meat, the fattier the better too. What's not to love? This is good news on a par with what Jesus told us. So simples.
Most people on insulin have type 1 diabetes - not a dietary problem. The ones that are type 2 and on insulin are very likely dietary problems.
Type 1 is genetic. The immune system attacks the pancreas, which keeps it from producing insulin. Those people can't do anything to fix that other than take insulin and match it to what they eat.
I'm not trying to give you grief - I just want people to understand there is a huge difference between type 1 and type 2, although the end result of high blood sugar is the same. You are right by the way that the most common form is mostly a dietary problem, but most people with type 2 do just fine with meds other than insulin. Type 1 - not so much.

But their doctors aren't giving them the right information so they don't understand they aren't stuck in that situation
