They can be from the same state, the rule is very narrow. From Article II of the Constitution:
“The electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons, of whom one at least shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.”

Yep, that is what I was saying, but it only takes electors away…they can be from the same state.

Part of that was superseded by the 12th amendment, but they didn't take the part out about losing the votes.
