Rode in the back of a pickup many times as a kid.
The bottom picture is missing protective head gear. Shame on those parents!
Lol.. I might have a few scars from my folks not monitoring my every move, but those were minor and physical.. Emotional scars become hereditary, much more consequential, and are more likely to be passed on to others…
While I don’t necessarily disagree with some of the changes as far as safety goes.
People generally seemed far more thick skinned, Sane and functional compared to now. Granted that may just be me looking back with rose tinted classes at an era my only real experience with has been stories from my parents and T.V.
I lived it.. It made for Stronger more Self Reliant people !!! Something our society is Desperately short of !!
Childhood then and now.. It's a tragedy. When I grew up we did some really stupid things, but somehow we survived all of it. I grew up in a small German village, we came home from school, had lunch, did our homework and then left the house heading towards the woods...
"Come back before it's dark, and better not miss dinner time, young boy..." I hear my grandma say like it was yesterday.
Today? I have a hard time finding some neighbour kids around to hang around with my two little ones, they are all busy af. Music education here, art class there, ballet elswhere, whatever.
Everything is indoors, no tough tasks, no teamwork building a hood, nothing. No wonder generation after generation gets weaker and weaker. They're not gettin' tested in real life tasks, just some pseudo educational bullshit.
Kids used to run the streets without a care in the world, all day, every day, and everywhere. Today, parents keep their kids locked up in the house, and yard for a justifiable fear that some criminal will harm them. And only dweebs locked their car doors during a quick run to the store- and often, never.
It is indicative of a criminal justice system that has completely failed society, and a massive overhaul of that system is desperately needed. Who's fault is that? Must be those self righteous, arrogant "perfect angles" who pull the strings of the justice system behind the scenes.
I was 10 before I realized there was a seat in the cab of our truck. All the kids even rode in the truck bed to church. I got a ticket because I let my 12 year old son and his friends ride in the back of my truck in 2004. I remember my dad cutting the seatbelts out of our 1972 Buick electra, my word was that car huge. Your safety "belt" was momma's arm.
Dude as a kid I always wanted to ride in the bed of a truck. I can see why nowadays thats a terrible idea but come on there's so much room for activities lol
(To note I'm only 20 now so all the fun stuff is before my time)
