What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
DO NOT MOVE TO DENVER. It's not just the left lane (to which people must gravitate as quickly as possible), it's that then all lanes move in a stupid blob. If there's enough room in say the right lane or two you might be able to work your way to the front and have some free space for a decent ways, but people are too busy mouthbreathing/huffing the exhaust of the car in front of them (have to stay close apparently) that it's often not worth it or impossible, even if you can see the clear space up there. Oh, and this driving too close with NO concept of ebb/flow means we have spectacular slowdowns/stop- or slow-and-go well below traffic levels that would cause this in CA (where, despite many things, this is one thing locals have figured out far better, it has to be seriously bad before things are stopping).
Oh #2, there's also the fact that the national sport of the Democratic People's Republic of CO is speeding up when passed instead of live and let live, like 99% of the time, it's fucking ridiculous. I have had a diesel truck with a long (not just the 2-horse kind) horse trailer get on it - when I was passing them ON MY MOTORCYCLE.
I should have just said, "don't get me started."
Seriously, my idea for a bumper sticker (you can run with it if you want, as like other such things I keep not getting around to it) is
"MANIFEST DESTINY DOES NOT APPLY TO THE LEFT LANE"
I’ve driven i-70 from where it starts to the Rockies and back again. East coast is shitty, packed with low iq drivers. The rudest were near Pittsburgh, where they seem to take delight in screwing over other drivers. The best were only slightly west of PA, in OH, where they honor the passing lane and seem to care about other people being able to travel efficiently. The Midwest drivers in OH, IN, southern IL, MO, and KS were all pretty good. The only frustrating times are when one truck passes another at only a small percentage faster, so the pass takes long as the two trucks clog both lanes.
In CO they should have the midwestern lane discipline, but I think it’s the curving steep parts of the mountain roads that poison the driving culture for the whole state, including around Denver which is the high plains rather than the mountains. In the mountains, sometimes both lanes have to slow way down and conventional passing has less opportunity. Instead of just making due in these few tricky parts of the mountains and then trying to revert to the left-lane-for-passing-only system as soon as is reasonable, they just get comfortable with abusing the passing lane. They throw out the entire lane selection system and it becomes a retarded traffic jam everywhere. Commute on straight and dry i-25 in Denver, and there’s chumps blocking the passing lane for no reason
I wouldn't over-analyze it - people here seem both uniquely retarded and have something stuck in their ass at the same time. Very annoying, I've never lived someplace where it was like this.
Yeah curves are part of the problem but it goes way beyond that as plenty of Denver doesn't have them (though they don't help where they are, I-25 thru downtown is esp bad).
Oh, the other thing the retards can't do here is merge, everyone has to slow down to near stop instead of merging to freeway speed, so there's a damn clog at every on/off ramp set that only sort of clears up by the next one.
Like I say, I don't know if it's the thinner air or what, but it's just dumber than shit here.
Edit: the ONE thing I can say is at least people are FINALLY figuring out that with less cops they can do what should have been done all along, which is at least have a faster flow over the limit instead of under it, though it doesn't take much to wreck that (see above) once traffic is slightly heavy/blobbed. AND of course it exacerbates the stop/go effect once there is slowdown because everyone speeds up AS FAST AS THEY CAN to fill an opening gap in front of them (see "ebb and flow") so it just repeats.
Oh and people here can't turn right on red either, esp when THERE IS A MERGE LANE SEPARATE FROM OTHERS FOR THEM TO TURN INTO. Seriously 10% of people can do this right. And, further, the few that do often WAIT INEXPLICABLY TO DO IT ANYWAY.
But they will run yellow lights even well into the red, that's also the national sport here. Anyone moving here or driving through is advised to treat green light as "make sure it's ok before you go" because it may well not be.
I said don't get me started....
Yes I noticed those issues also. The merging.., whew! If you’re in the acceleration lane and your brake lights come on, you’re doing it wrong.
And the traffic jam assholes who aggressively defend their following distance by stomping the accelerator and stomping the brakes like tards with no fine motor skills. If you try to roll at the average speed of the jam by intermittently leaving a larger than average following distance in front of you, they’ll try to punish you for it by cutting into your lane and messing with your flow. As if your following distance is the key to defeating the traffic jam. They don’t realize that the real problems were miles ahead and many minutes earlier. Anyone they can see are just in the same boat and not the cause of the jam. Might as well cooperate to save gas and wear and tear, like the Europeans do.
Exactly. "Cooperation" and "flow" are anathema to these idiots.
