What’s your favorite food to cook for Christmas or special occasions with family?
I make a killer roast leg of lamb, I like to show off to people who say they don't like lamb. I also do this black bean and rice casserole loaded with cheese, peppers, garlic and tomatos.
Both sound delicious. I always get lamb kabobs at a local Mediterranean restaurant. It’s so much better than beef.
I haven't been trusted to cook for family, LOL. I bring tasty beverages.
I need you at my family gatherings.
Deviled eggs, they're cheap, I'm poor and everyone loves when you show up with a platter of them.
True!
I’m considering doing eggs or potato salad for Christmas at in laws. Trying to talk hubby into grilling something then I’ll only have to take dessert.
Can of Rotella, can of chili and a log of Velveeta cheese in the crock pot works too. Not necessarily a holiday food but I've never had complaints when I show up with queso and chips.
I bought a case of rottela tomatoes at Sam’s cheaper than I could pay for two in the grocery. We cook Mexican meals a lot. I think of holiday food as what you like and especially foods you grew up eating. Nothing makes me happier than to cook one of my grandma’s recipes.
Christmas cookies. I just made the dough up last night, red, green, and blue. Today I will make press cookies. At least 10 dozen. It’s such a fun thing to do, and the cookies are delicious even if I do say so myself.
That sounds like fun. I’m planning on cooking cookies and other things I don’t need to eat. My kitchen hasn’t been available because we hired a painter. Didn’t plan on that during December but it was only time we could get him. I’ll probably cook some homemade old fashioned fudge next week. One of my high school friends invites a few friends over to decorate cookies. He lived close a few years ago and for about four years we had the best time doing this. He invited others from our school and it’s so fun. He moves a lot and I’m missing those fun nights. It’s less about the decorating of cookies and more about being silly with friends.
The fudge sounds delicious!
I can share the recipe but it’s a very old recipe before people used thermometers. If you cook it too long it’s very hard. Undercook and it’s a gravy, my family eats chocolate gravy so it’s cool. We call it chocolate sop. Eat at breakfast with biscuits. My pie recipe is basically the same except it has flour and eggs. My family is chocalcoholic’s. All the desserts at the reunion is chocolate. We believe my great grandmother served what she had during the depression. Pretty simple recipes with milk, chocolate & butter.

Mmm I'll bet your house smells so good right now!
Thanks didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted to, I’ve made press cookies, hundreds of times, but today there were some issues. I’m not quite sure what they were, but I did get a lot of really delicious cookies completed. And yes it did smell good.
