My gut says this was one of the reasons for Operation Warp Speed.
So they couldn't have time to make it so the mRNA absorptions and DNA changes were permanent.
Like in Deep Impact, they couldn't stop the small one, but they could the big one. Limited damage, but humanity is saved.

No, I just like the analogy.
Deep Impact basically sounds like a heavy copy of Armageddon, but with a hell of a lot more death and destruction.
Deep Impact came out two months earlier.
