The "extremists" are the peaceful ones. Saudi Arabia only fairly recently allowed women to drive. Iran is going to execute thousands of women for removing their head dress, whatever the hell that diaper is called. They still do honor killings when women get raped. They don't kill the guy that raped her, they kill the woman. They also throw gays off roofs.
Your best example is of middle/left Islamic countries is "Saudi Arabia only fairly recently allowed women to drive". This is true, but even before that happened, do you think it's fair to say that women there "had no rights"?
