I'm harping on slavery because that was the issue, the reason around why the states felt they wanted to leave the union. They wanted to keep slavery and felt that the Union was overstepping by telling them slavery was illegal. THE POINT you are missing is that if the southern candidate won, they were going to make is so states cannot make slavery illegal and force it to be legal in all states.
From your Link:: ""Northern Democrats believed in "popular sovereignty," or the right of new states and territories to decide if they wanted to include or exclude slavery from their borders.""
Sounds a lot like they, Northern DemonRats, were pushing for States Rights....
And yes, the Southern DemonRats have always pushed for some form of Slavery, just look at them now, every Libtard runs around calling other people Racists, yet the way they speak to Conservative Blacks is about as foul Racist as it can ever get....
Did you read only half of the text? It wasn't just "some slavery" it was federalised slavery...
Southern Democrats endorsed a federal slave code...
And which states were trying to leave the union? The southern states. The same states that were part of the southern democrats. The same ones wanting slavery mandated in all states. The same ones you claim only wanted to keep states rights.

WOW, that's one I had not heard....
So they were going to Force the States, into making Slavery Legal, to the point that the States just couldn't vote against it???
Like stripping the States of their Right to make it Illegal???
Hmm, sounds like a States Rights issue to me....
Just to clarify are you saying that the southern democrats did not support a federal slave code in the 1860s?

Again it's only a state issue to whichever side was losing and a federal issue to whoever was going to win.
Thank you for saying that....
And now we can finally admit that Lincoln was one of Americas first Mass Murderers, just like Stalin or Pol Pot, or Mao....
Whoosh missing the point
