I'm not a skilled analyst, only kinda thing I'm noticing is a sparcity of military aircraft airborne. Usually there are more flights up, many more, but I don't keep spreadsheets so anecdotal is all I got.
Today is a national holiday (New Year’s Day officially observed on the Monday following, when the holiday falls on a Sunday). Does the military observe such holidays? Maybe less activity?
Yeah the military observes holidays but the Mission is supported 24/7, or used to be in the 70s when I was in. As a single guy I used to take holiday duty so the married guys could be off, when possible. Wasn't always possible, the Mission is why 'you' exist after all.
Training and stuff that can be delayed or scheduled around holidays is done as possible , but everything Mission related is supported still.
I live under the final approach to a small general aviation airstrip. It's been very busy this morning with little planes landing every five to ten minutes. I'll watch to see if this stops or not and post sitrep if there's anything interesting.
and I've seen nothing out of my home-office window for about the last 15 minutes, after things being very busy this morning. The weather is a bit unsettled so maybe the wind changed and they're coming in from the other direction, but the air traffic did stop shortly after I saw your post.
At 1423 hrs Central time there are approximately 12,000 airplanes over the US, that's normal, there are only 24 military planes squawking over the US, normal is 350. I can't see military flights not using their transponders.

The curious thing is, it sounds like a grounding for the entire state and not just certain areas with unstable weather conditions.

19:30. NC, just took my pup out. Counted 4 planes in the air.
Did they just defuse the next 9-11 they've been warning about?
