I am self employed and got a letter where they pretend I didn't send a bazillion dollars with my tax return. They are graciously setting up a payment plan for taxes I have already paid, for the low low price of $250. I must respond by the 20th if I disagree. But you can't reach anyone at the IRS because they are having technical difficulties and have been since the day I got the stupid letter.
On a separate but related note, I can't even make an estimated payment while this gets sorted out because I can't get into the website. I am afraid to mail a handwritten check because they are being stolen from the mail and altered, and deposited into online bank accounts. Still working out a fraudulent check written on my business account - 200 payment altered to just under 10K. You have to fill out a police report and the word is, this is happening all over "Chicagoland." When did day to day life become so frickin' tedious????
Would it be too much to hope they are cleaning house? Yes, but I am going to fantasize about it anyway.
Keep notes, record calls, retain all correspondence, etc.
I'll bet it's a staffing thing. Probably all out taking their handgun training this week.
I am a tax attorney who specializes in resolving IRS issues. I'm actually youtube famous. YES!!!
Why are you getting into an IA for a debt you don't owe? You sound to be a million miles away from anything detrimental happen. I'd wait for those morons to sort it out. I think you may be wasting your $250 on account of IRS incompetence. That will just create another complication those morons can't handle.
As long as you pay all the taxes you owe for 22 by April 17th, you won't be penalized. DM me if you need help.
I'm breaking into the tax professional world (yes I'm missing a few brain cells) and I was thinking the IRS is usually closed the first week of the year, am I wrong about this? I know they stop allowing electronic filing of returns around Thanksgiving through middle to end of January but I can't recall where I got the idea their offices are actually closed at the beginning of the year. Nice to meet ya famous YouTube FreedomBoner Tax Attorney! 😃
Yeah they never closed like this before. Appeals is so backed up they like to kick causes out on technicalities after waiting over a year for a response.
Yeah... I am sooooooooo internet famous in the tax world. It's the best. I get my privacy because I'm still a nobody, but then I get to think of myself as famous.
So..dangerous to ask. Ginger powers are dicey. Can work out but man, when it goes wrong, it's ginger wrong. Which is sooo wrong. LOL.
Are you a preparer? Looking for remote work?
Bahahahahaha Ginger powers are a good thing as long as said Ginger is aware of them and knows how to use them. I'd say I'm about 75/25 on that front, old enough to know better and young enough to not care! I am not quite at the point of preparing returns yet. I work for a very OC man who we like to call a democratic socialist. He kisses the ground the IRS walks on and generally wants his preparers to never make mistakes and never get creative with preparing returns. It's difficult to learn because I came from a place of doing everything myself and now I have to have every single keystroke reviewed and re-reviewed because he doesn't want ANY mistakes going out the door. I'm thrilled to be learning from a highly intelligent person and to learn the correct way, but since I didn't come in with years of return preparing experience, he holds me back from learning!
I'd love some remote work, but I'd probably be better at the data entry prep, entering tax doc info and client info; I wouldn't be as much help with tax return preparation because the current teacher won't teach!
I almost started the EA training but realized I'd never get to the hands on part working here! I do the bookkeeping and all of the cleanups of books for small businesses, that keeps me busy but I'd take some remote work doing that even if I could find it!
Still havent gotten my 2021 refund that I electronically filed in Feb. Jumping through many hoops its ridiculous!
Have you looked up where's my refund on the IRS website? If not, check that and see what it says. There's a lot of instances of people e-filing, the site shows it as processing and then it just disappears and will show they haven't received the return. Very frustrating but you do need to stay on top of it, just had a client with this problem from his 2020 tax return! Poof, it's gone!
Yes, probably 100+ times. Submitted electronically in Feb. Bounced back in April. Resubmitted by mail before April 15th per CPA. Told I need to verify myself through there web site. This is all actually for my 89 year old Mother in a nursing home who cant see well and cant hear well. That was fun trying to verify her over a 2 week period. (6 attempts before they would verify her!) After she was finally verified we waited only to get another letter asking if her status has changed. Mind you my Mom has been widowed since 1999 and has sent in the same forms through the same tax accountant for the last 40 years. Next I end up getting a CAF number so they can talk to me (son and POA on her trust) and was told to wait some more. Total incompetence on there part!
Oh no! I am SO sorry you're having to deal with this, knowing they still have 2020 tax returns SOMEWHERE is just horrible and I can relate to the repeated registrations, phone calls, verifications, etc. Sure feels like the runaround doesn't it? Maybe instead of hiring more agents to review small businesses, they should hire more staff to process the prior year returns that aren't processed! Saying a prayer for you fren, taking care of elderly parents is hard enough but having issues with the IRS makes that job sooooo much harder!
rescind your status yo, income tax is only legal for federal employees, which you agreed to when you signed your first 1040 form. look into the history of income tax

Understanding common law will also be a good offense
I went to my local IRS office and they were closed. The building officials told me they are basically never there!
Send a paper check for $5. Write on the back, Deposit of this token represents payment in full. Send it with delivery confirmation. Done.
if you pay income tax, you deserve whatever they dish out against you & all the hoops you jump through.
income tax payers admit they are slaves & are part of the problem. no different than people standing in line for a jab, imo.
