The Dems did it a few years ago after Trump was elected and we all thought their party was falling apart. In fact, it achieved a major goal of Permanent Washington by unifying the party more than ever and removing all morality and dissent from the ranks.
They got leaner and meaner. Members with integrity were crushed or assimilated - Bernie Sanders is the best example, truly. The fringe left ideas took control of social policy and the neolib/neocon weapons and war makers took the economic side.
What resulted was what you see now: they vote in unison and never question at all. All dissent is immediately crushed and banished should it ever appear. Integrity and morality was drained from them; they were unbound from it. The new willingness to cheat and openly violate law and the bill of rights freed them from having to care about the will of American people. They focused in to serve only one master, the corporatists, and so are able to attract new members with promises of lavish wealth. Stealing elections and controlling media ensures false consent decrees for nearly any policy no matter how radical. They don't have to back voters interests because they dont need voters anymore; propaganda fills that gap. They dont need to make deals because there is unerring willingness to bend the rules and have their way.
We are about to see the MAGA element get lean and mean like that. It's what is desperately needed at this point.
Controlled opposition is at an end.
