Curious non-american.....but with this vote dragging on....does it mean you have no functioning government right now? I thought I heard that some congress person said that no one can we sworn in until the vote has been done.
No functioning legislative branch. The executive and judicial branches are functioning as well as last month (whatever that may mean to you). No swearings in can happen, as you note. However, arguably these representatives terms have begun pursuant to the constitution (which is a little ambiguous on this front).
No new legislation can be voted on in half of congress no can the new members of the house be sworn in. Also comittee asignments aren't being dolled out so comitees aren't meetings.
The senate, the executive branch (which is most of the government), and the judicial branch/the supreme court are all able to still work
Congress has delegated so much of their power to the executive branch they don’t do much more than send money to themselves and their friends. We don’t even need Congress to declare war at this point. The Constitution requires budgets to originate in the house but they just used trickery last month to pass an Omnibus bill so money is spent through the rest of the fiscal year.
No House basically just makes it harder for them to take away more civil liberties - a bet positive to America.

We haven't had a functioning American government in a long, long time, Fren.
^^This!
Oh it's been functioning, like the financial system we've been lied to about how it's supposed to work these days.
They won't get paid until a speaker is elected. Can't remember the date. Maybe the 15th?
Pretty much same as normal, tbh, only I assume they can't pass anything right now? 🤷♂️
Honestly, nothing wrong with that since lately that's just tax you here, send the taxes there.
Tax you here, there, tax you in 5 years, now they're doing the latter so much it's tax you in 4 months, etc.
I am pretty happy to see this happening even if it's just a short, fleeting moment in the gears of government.
Hahaha! What will Ukraine do without US sending money???

Things are better anyway, when it's not functioning. It's when it's functioning that we have to watch out for our wallets!
They can't make new laws but that might be a plus.
