For those interested in natural medicine: I’m in the third week of an unknown food or contact allergy rash and itching. Also could be eczema, not sure. I’ve had a hives type skin condition for 45 years and have been on Atarax since it started. I’ve never experienced an itch like this. I believe I understand the meaning of cat scratch fever. I’ve got an appointment tomorrow. It’s not very smart but I’ve taken way to much Benadryl & it only helps about two hours. Nothing I have used has cured the rash but it has slowed the itching. Witch hazel has been the best at calming the itch. I’ve tried essential oils and plant oil salves, steroid cream a family member has and cortisone even though it has toxic petroleum. I made a paste off: baking soda, epsom salt, honey, Bragg vinegar, yarrow-licorice tinctures, aloe and CBD oil. I applied paste in shower and when I got out I used bony butter containing: mango butter shea butter , apricot kernel oil, peach kernel oil and baobab oil. After a sleepless night of scratching I finally fell better. I’ve got an appointment at a walk in clinic and hopefully get diagnosis and something to stop rash. It’s so frustrating because it’s hard to determine the source. I thought it was a reaction to new goat milk soap, haven’t used in a week and still getting rash in new places. I’m making this post in hopes of helping others. There’s so many natural plants, etc that can treat most anything. I can tell every thing has helped but nothing if a cure with out the source.
I know you have already gone to the doctor...here a few suggestions tho...I took Atarax for a while in the 70's for dermatographism (hives)when my parents got divorced. I have also had cold hives and successfully used the homeopathic natrum mur. Medicine worked good but eventually wanted off. I found the book Body Mind and the B Vitamins and started taking about 100mg profile of B's plus C which are for nerve health...you can go up to 150 mg. Profile. Got off the Atarax. There is a homeopathic histamine that you could take in 30x or 200x and keep on hand. Under the tongue it works within minutes. Also, for relief colloidal oatmeal baths are very soothing. Skin conditioners are very hard to treat...even for doctors. Get your vitamin d levels up and take K...you will see improvement. We have very similar skin conditions and itching is the thing I hate most in the world. Good luck...
Thanks
Your skin may be detoxing; rashes and eczema can definitely be how it shows. For the most part, we remedy things from the inside, out. I wish you well.
Thanks & Very true words. I’ve read a lot on skin conditions and food sensitivity. Most rashes are from something wrong inside. If it clears again and returns I’ll probably get tested for food allergies. I have dermagraphism and that’s why my itching is so bad. It can be genetic or get it from certain bug bites. I had scabies and then the itching condition. Basically hives caused by touch. It’s too much release of histamine in blood stream. On a daily basis my itch isn’t the norm. I also have pain, it hurts extra bad to walk on gravel. Those skipper socks with rubber grip hurt my feet and it’s like a tiny drop of glue. I don’t remember what a regular itch is like. Hoping I get a steroid shot tomorrow.
You might want to think about a functional medicine practitioner. The assessments, testing, and background of these folks make MDs look even worse than they are. Have you ever been to a chiropractor? The integrity of the information to and from the brain and the rest of the body is crucial. Drugs can be useful in the short term but they do not address the REASON for whatever difficulty we're dealing with. It sounds like you have a lot to deal with and I am thankful that my issues are not as physically challenging as yours seem to be. Be well, friend.
I’ve considered a functional med doctor. I searched a lot and can’t find good reviews for the ones in my area. I’m hesitant to at the minimum $500.00 and they can’t help me. I should see if consult is free. I figured out the source of the rash. My dentist recommended Crest Densify. Every ingredient except water causes skin rash, swelling, itching and hives. One ingredient may cause skin cancer.
Try Vick’s vaporub. That sucks, though. Could it be your laundry soap?
And yep, you’re gonna smell bad.
I once just walked into a Walmart I’d never been to before to get to a Subway and immediately started sneezing and had probably the worst allergies of my life for a couple days. Someone said it could have been their cleaning products, maybe something on the floor. I didn’t even touch anything. Have you been around something new like that?
Thanks, anything that’s thick like Vicks makes it worse. I’ve got an arsenal of many herbal salves. My husband has two prescription topicals and both made it burn. My daughter has a tallow based cream (for babies and eczema) I used that today and it’s working longer than anything yet. There’s nothing good in a subway, not surprising you had a reaction. I’ve had about two subs from there in my life. I eat Jersey Mike’s or don’t eat subs.
Yeah, I never go to Subway anymore. Good luck, hopefully there is something to help you.
As an allergy magnet with asthma, excema from practically everything under the sun my entire life (my son is too) I have been going through the same thing. Still trying to figure it out myself but the best suggestions from our old allergist before we moved was to eliminate suspicious foods or ingredients one at a time for a few week and see if it makes a difference, if not try another and do the same., keep trying that then move to other things like pets, fireplace, plants, etc to narrow down then eliminate problem. Btw; they now have not only allergy shots (which my son and I both did a three year round of a few years back, but now asthma shots which he is about to start as soon as they send it. His insurance took forever to approve it.
Insurance is the worst! We pay for it and have to beg for coverage when we need it. Just like the medical system, insurance needs a major overhaul. That’s what we get when our government allows monopolies. I have had allergy shots at two different times in my life. I was stupid enough to get them again about ten years ago. First time early twenties and I never saw improvement. I think it’s a scam. Hopefully the asthma shot works for your son. If not research herbs and essential oils that help asthma. Sorry I can’t help, I don’t know a lot about asthma natural treatments. Yes, cutting out a food at a time is key. I haven’t done it yet because I really thought it was my new soap. Can’t be because I haven’t used it over a week. It’s getting more progressive by the day. I have been using the same laundry detergent for at least six months. I buy non toxic natural plant based detergent. I really believe it’s soy in processed foods. Time will tell.
I have IBS and my brother has Celiacs and I have more trouble with my digestion due to ten stomach surgeries (long story-massive pain from screwed up reproductive system) and have to cut out certain things that don’t digest well plus living on Miralax and my brother had to eliminate all processed sugar, dyes and gluten. He also found out that the sugars and dyes also made his youngest son go all ADHD in overdrive. He does fine otherwise
