On Wednesday, they closed the schools in my area of NE Ohio, for only two inches of snow. The temperature was in the low 30s and the roads were drivable. I know because I drove on them with no problem even though they weren’t plowed or salted yet. When I was a kid in elementary school back in the 60s, we walked 1/2 a mile to school, unsupervised through 6-12 inches of snow or in near zero weather. No one knows how to be tough anymore.
On the one hand, lawsuits and liability, given the likely injected status of bus drivers. OTOH, separately, yes we're teaching weakness. On the third hand, any reduction of time in the indoctrination centers is a good thing. Home schoolers don't worry about weather, at least for the school part. In fact, most of us aren't even reliant on electricity to continue educating!
They don't do that in Vermont, not in my region, the rest of the state would be closing and this area was good to go, it was left to the contractor who managed the school bus services, if he said "go", they went. 7 inches overnight here, the road was plowed at 5 30, sanded, which means the school buses are running, and, yep, there is school. When I first moved here in '85, I was so impressed with the snow management in northern Vermont. There have been -40 mornings when schools were closed too.
Well that's a good thing..I still remember trudging to school in cold wellies with snow going over the top..my skin chapped and sore..for what? to be taught communism..common core indeed!
At least we are kinder to our children.
