Long story short, my cat was preliminarily diagnosed with FIP, feline infectious peritonitis, which has created a build up of fluid in her stomach. I came across this article: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2020/05/remdesivir-cats/611341/
The author writes that remdisivir is almost identical to the FIP drug..so I’m wondering if I can replace the remdisivir with ivermectin. I have some coming from my dad in the mail but then I’d have to compound it to a smaller dose. Right now she is on prednisolone, augmentin, and Lasix to help get the fluid out of her system but the vet couldn’t find anything particularly wrong besides her white blood cell count being high. Her heart and organs are good. The x-ray didn’t show much because of the fluid build up but she suspects FIP. Has anyone here had any experience with this or ivermectin and a pet? Should I try to give it to her?
Our calico began constant sneezing and coughing a few weeks ago. I admisitered ivermectin once a day for five days and she was better a few days after the last dose.
I have 12mg ivermectin and she weight around 6lbs. I broke off 1/4 of the 12mg pill, so 3mg with is good for 33lbs of human. I then divided this 3mg chuck into 5 seperate doses and made into a fine powder. I put a little spit on one of her friskies cat treats, dipped it into the divided powder and she took it down like a regular treat.
I am not sure about the FIP drug or if ivermectin will help. Just wanted to share my feline ivermectin experience.
Thank you for the insight! Do you happen to have any dosing info? I also saw 0.1mg per lb but then I also saw 0.34mg per lb so I’m kind of stuck on the dosing if we do decide to give it to her. Did she seem to get better right away?
3mg was divideved into 5 doses, so that's around .6mg per dose.
Yes, she was getting better after the 2nd dose and completely better a few days after the last dose.
Thanks!

Good luck. 🙏 😭
I give ivermectin to my dogs every month for heartworm prevention, but I had always heard not to give ivermectin to cats.
interesting I’ll look into that thanks!
I give my cats Ivermectin.

Thank you!
IIRC fenbendazole is safer for cats and dogs.
I thought so too but my fenbendazole is for horses and I have no idea how I can begin to dilute it.
A few sources that align closely would be a good indication of safety. Search "fenbendazole dosage for cats".
Thanks!
