The version I know was a guy in a beat up car stopped to change the tyre in pouring rain. Maybe that happened more than once.

I'm sure this story has evolved and precise details have changed ....but I'm quite certain the gist of the story (Trump surprised someone by paying off his mortgage) hasn't changed at all.

Snopes may or may not be correct about this, but on the whole, snopes is a terrible source, and it's a stretch to call them fact checkers at all.
