No one knows what all brands. Gateway Pundit said it was Tractor Supply's Producer's Pride brand. Then somebody said it was Purina because they make Producer's Pride. (I was not able to verify this anywhere.) Mine stopped laying on a Nutrena high protein layer feed and started laying again when I switched to good scratch grains. WITH GRIT NOT SOAKED. I've seen other brands listed as causing the same problem. Some say it's a protein issue. Scratch has less than half the protein of layer feed.
I think this looks suspiciously like the dog food sickening and killing dogs a few years ago. Remember that? It was numerous brands. They found it that was because it was a protein powder made in China adulterated with melamine and other poisonous stuff to fake the percentage of protein in it. I'll bet this is going to turn out to be something like this. Personally, I think all foodstuffs from China should be banned - for human or animal consumption.
It’s the feed. The commercial feed. Apparently on the poultry blogs, it is being discussed. One lady soaks her feed in water, drains, repeats and it softens and makes it easier for her hens to eat. She realised that the seed from a particular seed seller was not absorbing water and had an unusual smell about it. Her hens would not eat it. Her hens had stopped laying. She had a large amount of kitchen scraps and threw this in and within a day they began laying.
Chickens don't have teeth. If you feed them whole grains you have to give them grit, which is used in their crops to chew up the grains. If you give them grit, you don't have to soak their feed.
There has been a lot of misinformation about this feed issue.
I know nothing about chickens. Just reporting what this lady revealed on poultry boards and I know nothing about her. She has 1.4 million followers so she reports on her chickens enough to have that many followers.
Well I do. I've had chickens for years. And I don't care how many followers she has. You can buy those numbers. She either has some odd reason for soaking their feed or she doesn't know enough about chickens (chickens 101) to give them grit.
I've seen another chicken lady with lots of followers who has lovely calico curtains and other fabric decor in and around her cute little hutch. She apparently has chickens that don't poop.
I hope I don't sound like any of this is aimed at you. I know you're just passing on what you saw or read.
Now, the same egg shortage is happening in the UK and elsewhere, just like bird flu and the culling of birds! And yet another chicken farm in the USA burnt down overnight!
This is actually antibodies created from eggs, not something you can eat eggs and get. Researchers created those antibodies, which could be injected to fight spike proteins. I makes no sense to use this to stop backyard hens from laying so people can't eat the eggs.
Name and shame those brands please.

Might have something to do with this! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33191178/
