"The Minuteman III began development in 1964 and entered service in 1970 with a force of 550 missiles. The United States usually conducts two or more tests of the Minuteman III each year to ensure the arsenal is functioning and reliable. It currently has an estimated 440 missiles in its arsenal."
Great. We are testing 55-year-old missile technology... and it STILL WORKS!!!!
Significant errors in this statement. Development began in 1956, the system was in service by 1962, with 1000 missiles-in-silos initially. It still works, but needs replacement with the GBSD system.
This headline is fake news. Air Force Global Strike Command launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile to "showcase the readiness of U.S. nuclear forces." It is NOT to "showcase the readiness of U.S. nuclear forces. Everyone who needs to know already knows our nuclear capabilities. It is to test the readiness of U.S. nuclear forces. These tests are run several times each year, every year. Think of these tests as an audit of the entire nuclear missile defense system.

The world should be amazed.

Why are we test launching an antique rocket? If they think Russia will piss their pants over it, I really don't think they actually care.
