Use Brave

Use Brave

I do NOT trust Brave browser. Why? Because :

  • Brave spies on you
  • Money-Servant
  • Illegal and deceptive
  • Cash-grab & double dip
  • Primitive

Below are sources, alternatives Tor Browser, Firefox, Ungoogled-Chromium, and details for those interested

spy on you

  • Brave browser spies on you and reports your activity to both Amazon, Criteo Corp, Highwinds Network Group, Facebook, Twitter
  • Suspicious outbound connections from Brave browser on UDP port 137

Money-Servant

Brave browser is owned by a for-profit corporation "Brave Software, Inc.". It is not owned by a not-for-profit community. Usually a corporation first priority is to hoard money. Not serve you and protect your privacy. In other words, Brave is risky to increasingly be a Money-Servant. Not a People-Servant.

"illegal and deceptive"

In April 2016, the CEO of the Newspaper Association of America, David Chavern, said that Brave's proposed replacement of advertising "should be viewed as illegal and deceptive by the courts, consumers, and those who value the creation of content".[20][21]

"cash-grab" & "double dip"

In January 2016, in reaction to Brave Software's initial announcement, Sebastian Anthony of Ars Technica described Brave as a "cash-grab" and a "double dip". Anthony concluded, "Brave is an interesting idea, but generally it's rather frowned upon to stick your own ads in front of someone else's". TechCrunch, Computerworld, and Engadget termed Brave's ad replacement plans "controversial" in 2016.

"primitive"

In February 2016, Andy Patrizio of Network World reviewed a pre-release version of Brave. Patrizio criticized the browser's feature set as "mighty primitive,"

Alternatives to Brave

Alternative 1 of 3. Tor Browser.

Tor Browser is easy to install and use. And it is by far the strongest privacy and security. But it is slower.

Get Tor Browser at https://www.torproject.org/download/

Alternative 2 of 3. Firefox.

Firefox is the easiest to install and use. It is also the fastest of all browser. It has good security and privacy. But not as strong as Tor Browser above. Both Tor Browser and Firefox could be installed on the same device and us at the same time.

Get Tor Browser at http://mozilla.org/firefox

Alternative 3 of 3. Ungoogled-Chromium browser with Chromium Web Store extension.

Chromium is the internet browser which powered Brave, Chrome, and other browsers. Ungoogled-Chromium is an alternative to all other Chromium based browser.

Your main benefit with Ungoogled-Chromium is that it is WITHOUT any string attached to Google Chrome. Because it does NOT depend on Google web services. In other words, when using Ungoogled-Chromium, Google is NOT able to collect your private data. So you get a stronger privacy.

Introduction video of 2 minutes about Ungoogled-Chromium and the Chromium Web Store extension at https://streamable.com/655nn

Chromium Web Store allows you to get for free ALL Chrome Web Store extension WITHOUT a Google Account

Download and Install Ungoogled-Chromium

  • Ungoogled-Chromium at https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium#downloads

  • Optional Chromium Web Store at https://github.com/NeverDecaf/chromium-web-store#chromium-web-store

Ok I think I went through most of these links but many didn't pertain to Macs. And I'm not real savvy when it comes to following computer lingo anymore! Too old to care I think. Like my browser has absolutely no ads. I don't know. I can tell when my info is sold to somebody because of the ads that pop up. That's why I'm no longer on Facebook. And I refuse to put anything google on my computer. I have p.o.'d a few people because I refused to put tic toc and google calendar on my system. But I don't care. Apple well......what can I say......I'm perplexed....

For Mac try Epic browser. It doesn't keep a "History" and cookies are dumped each time you quit. (Those features make it unusable for shopping, banking, etc. but that's the point.) For search use https://presearch.com or www.yandex.com

For Mac I use "Brave" browser only for YouTube, because it skips the adverts.

For Mac I use "Firefox" browser for its "Reader" view feature that cleans up pages and bypasses many subscription pop-ups.

There are other Mac browsers, too: Vivaldi, TorBrowser, Slimjet, Aviator, Maxthon and, of course, Safari, which also supports the "Reader view" option (in the View menu).

Ok I think I went through most of these links but many didn't pertain to Macs.

For Macs, I suggest the much easier to install and use browsers Tor Browser or Firefox.

Ungoogle-Chromium is harder to install. As it requires command lines. It does have an installer for Macs. But both Tor Browser and Firefox are much easier to install. They both also have stronger security and privacy than Ungoogle-Chromium.

If you're not familiar with Tor Browser and Firefox. Below are details and links to easy and quick installer for other operating systems.

Metacrawler + uBlock Origin (use adblocker to stop google ad spam)

This is a metasearch with it's own crawler

Look at the backends

DuckDuckGo is just rebranded Bing

I haven't used DDG since they became compromised, settled on Brave Search and Swisscows. Kind of sad that Swisscows is also just rebranded Bing.

You are probably thinking "Webcrawler"

I think Metacrawler uses Webcrawler as one of its sources.

Nope, it was meta, webcrawler had the spider logo, but using meta for a metasearch just clicked better with me.

Freespoke rocks - you can actually find a bunch of stuff that aren't listed in search results from other search engines. But it does irritate me that Freespoke doesn't have a way to sort results by the most recent and the dates shown on each link are 100% wrong EVERY time. :-(

My favorite alternative to Duck Duck Go and Google is https://metager.org

Your Benefits With Metager:

• Libre Source (Open Source). If you are not familiar with "Libre Source", it means this software has both stronger security & stronger privacy. Because its code is publicly available for review and contributions on GitLab at https://gitlab.metager.de/open-source/MetaGer

• Attractive GNU General Public version 3 & MIT licenses. This means the software code is owned and supported by a friendly not-for-profit community. Instead of a for-profit corporation.

• MetaGer protects against censorship by combining the results of multiple search engines

• Algorithms are transparent and available for everyone to read

• Run by a Nonprofit Organization

• Powered by 100% renewable energy

• Optional, dark theme

Show Your Support To Metager:

• If you enjoy this application, show your support to the authors & contributors with:

___• Donation at https://metager.org/spende

___• Patch at https://gitlab.metager.de/open-source/MetaGer

All GAW users must adhere to the highest standards of conduct, whichever .WIN they are on. If we are notified by other moderators of incivil behavior on other .WINs, you WILL be banned here!

Civil Discussion ONLY:
They want you divided.
They want you labeled by race, religion, class, sex, etc.

No doomers, shills, or tards: THIS IS AN ELITE RESEARCH BOARD. If you can't use common sense you'll get banned without hesitation. If you're a shill, you fall under this rule. If you're a doomer, you fall under this rule as you just add garbage to the site like the other two. This includes forum sliding. Q said "We are saving Israel for last," and so are we. And if you're a tard, oh, man.

General Rules:

-Mods used to issue warnings, followed by temporary bans and/or permanent bans. We don't, anymore. DO NOT GRIEF THE MODS.

-Keep posts related to topics Q has raised or that are current. We try to keep an open mind, but... c'mon.

-No fame-fagging; no, "your" post did not get removed! Were you the original author?? Eyes on the prize, frogs!

-Memes encouraged, but no low-quality, low-info trash, pls. Excessive, low-effort posting may earn users vacations!

-Keep it honest and accurate.

-Patriots.win / Q Supporters ONLY. (Sorry, this train still has no brakes.)

-Handshake noobs will be scrutinized by their command of Q, sincerity, and respect to others.

Remember, your conduct here represents the Q movement! OUR ENEMIES ARE WATCHING! (Hi, Mike! You LOSER!)
