That picture of his nightstand contained all kinds of comms. Not just the Durham boat but also the Coke cans spelled out "Cook" just after he met with Apple's Tim Cook... plus the pistol was a replica from a game called Deus Ex. Some parts of the plot of the Deus Ex game synch up with the plot of V for Vendetta and our own current events as well. Finally, it also contained a Vajra Dorje, which is a Buddhist ritual object signifying enlightenment.

But yeah, this is SO obviously a planned/controlled demo situation, it's impossible for me to believe otherwise. And that's with a perpetual lens of "Could the plan be failing?" at each piece of bad news I read.
I think he's definitely part of the plan. We've never seen his face. He posts religiously six days a week for how many years now? I have wondered if it's an AI program that the white hats update. Some of the catchphrases are very repetitive. Not that I mind. Love that show.
