Surprising how few people know that the purest form of a phone number has to begin with "+"
When the global telecoms system began to form it was ruled by the USA who was the most important and yugest so they allocated themselves the country code "1" - this is why US phone numbers start with 1, as in 1-800-234-1234.
If you travel overseas a lot then you don't have to be stuck in Japan wondering what is their prefix for "international call" , you just store your numbers in the form +1-800-234-1234 and it automatically knows that number is in USA. Call same number unchanged from anywhere in the world.
All other countries start with some other allocated number; such as UK is 44, so all my contact numbers are stored as +44-2345-67890
Canada is 01, or 1. Has been for decades. My Uncle, who used to work for BT, said that this was because of the first transatlantic call having originated from Canada, making it the first Country Call, thereby being given the first Country Code.
An oldie but goodie. From 2018.
Indeed! I had not seen this proof before. Missed it somehow.
Its almost toppier than "tippy top".
I remember it, but a lot of people probably haven't seen it, so still worth posting.
Nice! ThanQ fellow planefag!
PlaneFaggotry has its place. 👍
Yup, that is a pretty solid proof, I would say.
