Holy crap! The synopsis alone makes Illuminatus Trilogy seem like a Dick and Jane primer.
I vote for “Star of the Unborn” for best sci-fi future utopia book. Franz Werfel was a literary giant and it’s his magnum opus. Also very very funny. It gets better each time I reread it.

^^^This.
The Illuminati books messed with my head for years, although I believe they did help me wake up early (WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED) and now I see the Fnords, but you're right, the plot summary for this book is downright mental trauma inducing.

I read Lem’s novel before I watched Matrix which made the latter look déjà-vu.
