You say there would be about 1% if the cows there are now. Do you have source for that, or are you just making that up? In either case, do you think it would be okay to farm humans the way we farm cows? More humans would get a chance to live, so by your logic, why shouldn't we? Is it really a life, if you're just bred and raised to be slaughtered?
Do we agree that farming humans for their meat is wrong and inhumane? If so, then I'm confused why you think it's okay to farm cows for their meat. It should be considered just as inhumane.
There are kids living in third world countries that have no house and no family, and are barely surviving. Would you consider it heroic then, to save that kid, fatten him up for a few years with some food, just to slaughter him and eat him? Sure you gave him a "better" life than he had before, but does that make it okay?
There is no "humane" way to farm cows for their meat, just like there is no "humane" way to farm humans for their meat. "Freerange" is just a buzzword to make you feel good about needless barbaric slaughter of a creature that didn't need to die.
the 1% is a shot in the dark, it would be massively lower is the point. I don't think this can be refuted. Humans are at a higher consciousness and created in the image of God, so I don't see farming livestock as an equivalent to farming humans.
If you put animals on equal footing as humans, we have no basis for a discussion. If you feel the death of a pet in your household is the same as the death of your mother, father or child, there is nothing more to be said.
I pray you find God before you pass.
edit: I didn't down vote you even though I disagree with your logic. Someone else did.
The downvote was inspoken, they admitted to it down below.
I can't confirm nor deny that we are a "higher consciousness" than a cow. For all we know, they're a higher consciousness than us, created the pyramids, realized they were too smart and decided to humble themselves.
I'm joking, but yes, pets that we accept into our house are treated like the rest of the family. When we go to family outings with the rest of the family, they come too. There's no need for specism here. They deserve a good life like the rest of us
Regardless of our belief differences, I appreciate your willingness to share your thoughts and listen to mine.
"Do you have the source for that" get's the downvote. It's of course a rough number but if they are not farmed explain to me how they would no go the way of the buffalo.
You apparently just stopped reading at that point then. I'll downvote you for lack of reading skills.
You're not "saving cows" by farming and eating them. I'm not sure why you think you are. Your whole argument is flawed on that basis alone
I’m just going to always wonder - when I pull up my garlic from its cozy soil, cut some limbs off my lettuce, or twist off a zucchini from it’s mothers arms - if they are screaming at me in their own way?
I should also hope that all carnivorous animals that hunt other animals get the message that they shouldn’t take life to live their own.
Other animals don't have technology to be better. We do. Flawed argument.
Other animals drink from rivers and ponds. Other animals bathe in ponds. Other animals don't have access to the internet that you're using right now to post here.
If you want to equate yourself to other animals, feel free, but at least live like other animals first.
We have technology that we don't have to kill other animals any longer to survive. The killing of animals is just a barbaric past. Some of us are just holding onto that past a little longer than the rest of us.
