Poll: Americans Worry Religious Institutions are ‘Abandoning' Beliefs
A majority of Americans say faith is important to their daily lives, but they worry "too many religious institutions nowadays are watering down or abandoning their traditional beliefs."
I lost all respect for 99% of churches when they followed the COVID lockdowns without question. The churches should have been on the front lines of calling out the totalitarian crap, but they folded faster than a house of cards to the government. So why should I take those cowards seriously about anything? Kudos to the few churches that actually put up a fight, but they were few and far between.
I only know of several, and I was happy to see.
This started in the late 70s. I stopped attending church on a regular basis because of what was happening in churches and sought my own path with God. I've tried several churches and can't even believe what direction they've gone. They've become full of grifters and its is very hard to find a church with the level of community I grew up with.
I went from Evangelical to Presbyterian to Baptist to Universal to Wiccan and then just abandoned church completely. But about 5 years ago, I found Seventh Day Adventist and I have been very happy there.
They followed the words very religiously.
I also have concerns about the softening of once-strong beliefs. It's ironic because so many people I know are abandoning church because it's too hard on gays, and I'm sitting here concerned that it's too soft.
It's too soft so I left. Bible said gay is a sin so I go with the Bible.
Find a traditional church or parish and you'll find a strong youth presence. Thanks be to God.
Woodstock theology is dead and evil.
Can’t find one all woke.
Thanks. I found Seventh Day Adventist and I like them a lot.
I saw that in WA, when they decided to allow gay and lesbian pastors, we didn't stay in that denomination.
I can’t find a based church here to save my life
I understand.
Yes. Actions speak louder than words.
We are now in Seventh Day Adventist and they absolutely follow the Bible. Sometimes a little bit too religiously or legalistically.
The falling away from the faith...church members voted to allow homosexuals to marry in church because of some obscure references about love they "found" in the bible - while ignoring the obvious scriptures that it is a sin. It was time to walk away from them and discover that the true church resides inside each of us.
Whole bunch of us did this and formed small groups instead. We actually found SDA very good. They followed almost to the letter.
Grace is important. It is the first step. But, cheap grace has infected the Church and has been a license for lawlessness which has left the Church being influenced by the culture rather than the Church being an influence on the broader culture. Salvation opens the door, but the believer must walk through that door and continue on the path of sanctification to make grace work. Yes, faith takes work! It is a verb and not a noun. It is not something you simply believe - it is something you do. If a so called believer is left unchanged by their experience, then I have to seriously doubt whether there was salvation at all - or was it just wishful thinking and something that sounded good at the time. Walking up an isle and saying a sinner's prayer proves nothing. Without works faith is dead. I will show you my faith by my works. These are words that cheap grace does not want to hear.
Very well summarized.
Who would have thought church attendance was dropping because americans are more religious than their churches?
LOL. This is amazing to me also.
Frankly I would love to find a church that has a strong doctrine. In my experience churchs are full of self righteous clique. I've just turned to my own relationship with God. Like everything else being a loud Christian is virture signaling.
We did. We found Seventh Day Adventist and they followed to the letter. Check them out. You might be surprised.
I didn't know about the history of the Enlightment and all that, but what you said was going on in the church and I brought in Stephen King just to pass the time. What you said about loaves and fishes being sharing and someone was trying to explain Jesus walked on water being piles under water and he knows where to step....etc.
Pretty soon, I decided to go away completely.
