Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I'm from northern England so my vitamin D levels were naturally low because of lack of sunshine. Even though I get more sun here in Greece, I've been taking 10,000 IU of D3 daily and double that in winter because I've still been getting colds and flu.
I got a blood test a couple of days ago and it showed that my B12 level is low AND my D3 is only 21ng/mL. That's barely enough to stave off scurvy so no wonder I'm getting colds!
Clearly the "10,000 IU" pills from eBay are chalk pills. B*stards!
Now I have D3 capsules from the pharmacy. They are more expensive than the placebos but hopefully they will work.
So this is a warning to Anons not to believe the claims for vitamins unless from a known good source.
Some synthetic vitamins are not well absorbed. Sometimes you have to be careful what other supplements or foods you take them with. Sometimes it's that your particular body doesn't absorb certain nutrients well. All kinds of issues can factor in. But in general, get your vitamins from food, that is the one way I haven't had issues.
I take 10,000 IU of NOW vitamin D3 daily along with one Super K from Life Extension...my D level went from mid 20's ng/mL to 60ng/mL and my health has improved in MANY areas...so don't throw the baby out with the bathwater...there are reputable brands...
BTW I am allergic to the sun so I do not do excessive sunlight...in fact high levels of D have helped the sun allergy...if I acclimate slowly...
Good luck getting your levels up...it makes all the difference in the world...
The typical vitamin C tablet has a poorly absorbed form of the vitamin, natural sources as much as possible are just as important. Look for the Vitamin C that has the word Liposomal formula, its absorbed well.
Pine needle tea, red bell peppers are great sources of vitamin C.
Dr Berg says apple cider vinegar is a great source of vitamin C. I put a teaspoon in my glass of iced tea.
Olive leaf extract is a very good source of vitamin C and is well absorbed. I take a teaspoon of that and Moringa leaf every night.
Why are we discussing vitamin C? I have an orange tree and olive trees in the garden, as do all my friends.
It was vitamin D3 that I had a problem with. Also vitamin D3 in levels higher than 50ng/mL prevents cancer, according to Dr John.
"They are more expensive than the placebos but hopefully they will work."
Words of wisdom.
