Can attest there were gays there at least in the late 80s and 90s. Note that was before "Don't Ask Don't Tell". We had a flamer at my first base - black guy that had the lisp and wore green-colored contacts. All of us knew, and he talked about it with a few of us coworkers. Nobody cared. I figured he wanted to serve just like I did so more power to him. He was good at his job.
Then DADT happened. It changed stuff - gays came in not necessarily because they wanted to serve but because they wanted to either make it "more gay" or just to say they were part of it to gain cred in their community. That also put them more at risk from some of the more bigoted people for being beaten up.
I saw (before DADT) 1 case of cross-dressing while i was in, and it was in the Army (I was USAF) but it was at Fort Carson (near to NORAD where I was at the time). Dude was a Colonel - full bird. He got caught, and I believe he was drummed out. I know several people that dressed up as a cross-dressing Col that Halloween.
Anecdotal stories I know, but while gays were probably always there in the military to some extent they didn't really explode until recently with the Dems artificially pushing the issue. I do wonder why the gays as a whole don't see how the Dems are using them to forward their agenda. It wasn't enough to let them serve - they had to change rules, dress codes and uniforms, fitness standards, test scores, job classifications, etc. (not all for gays but women, fat recruits, and fairly dumb recruits that could not pass the ASVAB). It was all planned and all part of the destruction of our country. The trans, and to some extent the gays were just easier to showcase and talk about.
Back in the day, the moment they were found out, they were gone the very next day. I recall someone in my division, who caught a couple Sodomites 'going at it' in the top rack right above a sailor who was sleeping in the middle rack. You talk about audacity, this takes the cake. Two people in my division tied the faggots together with their bed sheets. I heard about it the next day, and these queers were already long gone.
Too bad for the rules they have today. It is so different today that it seems like a hellish altered universe being experienced.
Speaking of gays in the military, I remember a photo from some years back that was heavily pushed and/or marketed to show the "openness" and "acceptance" of the military towards gays. The picture was of a male soldier returning from his tour in Iraq jumping up and into the arms of his male lover here in America. The picture captures the moment where the soldier is being held by his male lover and they're practically screwing with their tongues all over their faces. This picture was blasted all over the place back then to show that "love is love" and that the military was accepting of all the queers.
Just thinking of it now makes me sick and shows how backwards and pointless gay "love" is, when it can never amount to anything (i.e. create new human life/souls, as God intended between man and woman).
