I agree with most of your points, though I have a slightly different take.
We can agree it makes absolutely no business sense to do what these companies are doing.
I am leaning towards controlled demolition of the corporate economy. I won't go as far as to say the white hats are controlling everything. But the idiocy certainly points to direct influence on corporate decision making.
One other possibility is that all of this stuff is to wake people up out of their ad-induced {ads are just propaganda for profit} coma.
So maybe we are truly watching a movie and they've already gone bust.
