Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment

-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Okay, folks. Deadly serious talk time.
As I said before, I had food poisoning last month.
Ever since I recovered, my stamina has been greatly diminished, and I get a weird feeling in my chest if I exert myself too hard or I exercise for more than a few minutes.
I fear that something has gone seriously wrong with my heart. As in cardiopulmonary system.
Worst case scenario, I could have pericarditis. Apparently food poisoning can cause that in rare, particularly-bad cases.
I dread going to the hospital for confirmation of my condition, because I have NOT gotten the Covid jab, and I dread they'll force it upon me--to say nothing of a ventilator.
I admit I am overweight. However, before I got sick, I was in the process of changing my lifestyle to lose the weight--I had dropped ten pounds before it started, and another seven while I was bedridden and my digestive tract was evacuating itself. I currently weigh about 208, which is still a significant improvement from the 225 I was before.
What should I do? Anti-inflammatories? I already take one pill of turmeric curcumin every day--should I raise it to every 12 hours? Aspirin and Ivermectin I have plenty of as well.
Please pray for me.
EDIT: Also, I take a single aspirin and the pain is significantly lessened. Maybe it could just be my chest muscles, not my heart. Still, worth mentioning.
I don’t have much faith in doctors but it seems like a situation where you’d want to, just to rule out cardiac problems, see one. It’s also possible that you have an irritated stomach lining still. That can feel like chest pain. Or it’s gas because things aren’t moving along because everything had been messed up. That’s my totally scientific-doctorish-dancing-nurses-on-tik tok description of stasis or some such thing. My mom always suggests the Braty diet for GI illnesses. Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast and yogurt. But seriously, sorry you’re having this and I hope you feel better soon.
Please if you have chest pains or discomfort while exercising, please consult a health care specialist. It could be a number of things or nothing but doing nothing can be fatal.
As for worries on the vax, I do not know where you live but in the US, many people bring in legal documents that are put on file of their refusal of blood and blood products. I would treat the vaccine the same way.
No aspirin.
Food poisoning, heatstroke, and dehydration did the same to me
TURMERIC with black pepper supplement, 2x a day I prefer the megafood brand. If your turmeric has no black pepper it is worthless
Pomegranate juice, 100% not a blend, 4oz cup 3x a day
Ester C, 1000mg a day, American Nutrition makes the best
Magnesium Taureate, it is specific for heart health, start with 250mg a day
Nutravege algal omega oil, 1.5 dose a day
Finally, you need to limit caffeine, start drinking hot tea instead of coffee. NO ALCOHOL. NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS. And I am assuming you are male? NO red meat, at all. That was the single biggest change I made after my incident. TMAO is a killer. Chicken, salmon, turkey, ONLY. Once you are past the incident, meaning you feel normal again regularly, you can eat pork every now and them.
As for exercise, get a recumbent bike, start with 10-15 minutes a day, work up to 30, then 50. Liss though..low impact steady state. You want to get your heart rate up to about 105-120 on average no higher than 135ish
A lot of these I already take, and I'll run them down one-by-one. It'll hurt replacing them, since I'm having a bit of family money trouble at the moment--but beggars can't be choosers.
Turmeric with black pepper: Currently I take NatureWise turmeric curcumin at least once a day, 2250mg of organic turmeric curcumin, 500mg of "curcuminoids standardized to 95% to support heart health and promote strong joints." And...huh, it doesn't say on the front of the bottle, but it DOES contain 15mg of black pepper extract. Will that do?
Pomegranate juice: Funny enough, my dad takes this every day. However, I don't think it's the best kind, though I'm no expert; it's the POM brand, the kind in those weird gourd/hourglass-shaped bottles that are hard to fit into your fridge, and something tells me that's closer to sugar water than real juice. But I assume it's better than nothing.
Ester-C: I already take 1000mg of C daily, but I'll check this out. And I can't find an "American Nutrition" brand--I found an American Health, is this who you meant?
Magnesium taurate: I already take 250mg of magnesium (oxide) a day. I should likely up the dosage...but why specifically taurate? I assume it's like taurine?
Nutravege algal omega oil: Argh, I hate using droppers. I'll take the softgels.
Limiting caffeine: I actually don't drink coffee, so that's a plus. And I've cut the soda pop out near-entirely, going most days without a drop of it--I said I was trying to lose weight and all.
No alcohol or artificial sweeteners: Waaay ahead of ya. I don't drink, and I already knew NutraSweet and sucralose were bad, so I don't use them.
No red meat: ...Are you SURE? Because the keto guys here are going to HATE you for this. And TMAO...assuming you mean Trimethylamine N-oxide, I don't eat mollusks or crustaceans anyway--but does this mean I should stop taking my daily fish oil? I don't see any TMAO in its ingredients.
The heck is a recumbent bike? one trip to Google Image Search later Oh, we have one of those. Alright.
TMAO in hooved animals is a completely different story than in shellfish. Look at the constant of longer living cultures. Lots of seafood and poultry, less beef. Especially the Japanese, beef is a splurge whereas most meals are seafood, eggs, or chicken. In America, people eat beef almost daily and the majority of our celebrations revolve around beef.
Yeah, I meant health. They make ester C in every format. Ester C IS is the king of C besides Liposomal. I wish Linus Pauling was around so he could have studied ester instead of the plain citric acid he would use.
Pom brand is ok but not really the best. You have a costco membership? They sell a 64 oz bottle of real Pomegranste juice for $7 otherwise you can not go wrong with Langers all Pom. A little bitter because it is the whole pom but it effective.
Taureate? Here is one of many studies https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6435948/ it is simply the most effective mag for the heart. I like Kal labs powder...it dissolves easy and is very bioavailable. Reduced my palpitations almost entirely and it just really helps overall health
Your Turmeric is great, with the black pepper 15mg. When you run out, if you prefer pills, I would definitely get Solgar. They make excellent supplements and they have a few different formulas. Solgar No. 7 - Joint Support and Comfort - 105 Vegetarian Capsules - Increased Mobility & Flexibility - Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Non-GMO - 105 Count https://a.co/d/70QV4PY this is pricey but the blend guarantees effectiveness.
The bike is the best way to get LISS in. LISS is the key here. And you can do it while watching anime or Q stuff or whatever kind of media you enjoy
Sadly, there are no Costcos within at least 30 miles.
I had to look up what LISS was--I'd never heard it before. My exercise HAD been a video game called Ring Fit Adventure, which is incredibly newbie-friendly and well worth checking out if you have a Switch. Seriously.
Aspirin overdose can cause heart problems so be careful.
Here in Greece I can see a private heart specialist for about $60 and get an electrocardiagram, ultrasound exam and possible diagnosis. I don't have to go near a hospital. Can you do that wherever you are? If not, come to Greece!
I make sure to not take an aspirin more often than every four hours.
Especially since, fun fact, I know that one of the classic American Gladiators went deaf because she ate a bunch of aspirin as a toddler, not knowing what it was. Child safety seals exist for a reason, folks.
She went by Siren on the show.
