More importantly, we are well schooled enough to know the basics of logical thinking. When we engage with a topic, there's key information we look for. Further, we've gotten smart enough now to recognize the dazzle of emotional appeals that so often gets thrown into the air to try and distract from any real information or learning. We've learned to ignore that noise, or even better, to make memes out of it and weaponize it right back at the people doing this.
I think it makes a huge difference. Keys to keeping this strategy effective:
Teach people how to think logically
Point out the logical fallacies and distractions with good humor/mockery
Focus on the real data
Compose that real data into a meaningful story to share with others
That last one is key. That's why Tucker Carlson is such a threat. He can put the whole thing together far better than most. We need to get a lot better about clarifying the big picture for people.
I learnt a while ago that logic has both plusses and minuses. I used to worry about my mother because she was not logical - but she always seemed to get to the right answer. I realised that logic was an issue when it came to solving anagrams for a crossword. She could do it easily and I just reeled from the number of possible combinations of letters involved!
I now frequent a YouTube channel where the "owner" is not logical and he cannot see it. The tangled pretzel of reasons he comes up with to dislike the people he dislikes and to like the people he likes is incredible.
Damn, thatβs wordy. Iβm just trying to stay sane in an insane world.
Dam Skippy we're doing just fine !
We have formed a mycelial biofilm to microfiltrate the noise out of the sweet river of information
ahhh...filtering out the BS so otherS can THINK FOR THEMSELVES...
Great Analogy of the "mycelial biofilm to microfiltrate" ---> BS!!!!
