School Principal Quits Job To Homeschool Her 3 Kids On A 10-Acre Homestead: 'I Wanted To Raise Thinkers'
... “I remember as an educator, wanting more control over how I was teaching curriculum,” she said. “But then I would have to have it approved by my admin—the school—the district—the state … and ultimately the answer was always NO. ...
... Meanwhile, the biggest misconception amongst people about homeschooling, according to Mandy, is that people think there is a lack of socialization. “This is so wrong,” she said. “How is sitting at a desk surrounded by 25-plus peers your exact same age, while your teacher tells you not to talk, socialization? We are out every day, having real-world experiences with all walks of life!”
Biggest regret of my life is not having homeschooled my kids.
The socialization argument has always angered me. Our pediatrician asked me for the third time in a row about whether our kids were "getting some socialization" and I finally told him, "Look, homeschoolers snicker silently when you ask that question. Did you know I'm in a homeschool community with your niece and her six kids?" He never asked me again.
What’s this homeschool community thing about ?
Groups of parents who organize children's activities, possibly including a home-school co-op, which has classes.
when a bunch of parents decide to home school and there is more than just the one family home schooling. people worry that children who are home schooled won't be socialized when they become adults. what a lot of people don't know, is a lot of home schooled kids still participate in athletics at schools and are socialized with others that way. they just aren't fed all the queer junk and lies at home like they are at public schools.
Mmm agreed to disagree. Just because you are doing it right doesn’t mean that most of them are. I personally have many homeschooled kids in my extended family that are proof of the opposite.
Trails of America, sports teams, martial arts classes, enrichment classes, music/band/chorus, church, volunteer work, accompanying parents in their business and errands, and organized/semi organized home school family get-togethers for classes, projects, park days, swim meets, museum visits, etc.
Our kids are polite, well spoken, informed and complimented by observant adults everywhere we go. Other parents wish their kids were like ours but don't see the connection. The museum and library personnel do, though. They know we leave our areas cleaner and we're more polite and gracious, and that both kids and adults will be engaged and interested.
