Just like those Mork and Mindy scripts.
Robin Williams kept coming up with lines that were funnier than anything the writers could create, so eventually they just put in stuff like "(Robin goes off here)" to let him improvise.
And that, in turn, came from Harpo Marx.
that's frickin awesome.
I remember watching Mork and Mindy and even as a kid I was thinking Wow people can be this funny on TV? Everything else seemed stupid and cliche. Maybe Christopher Lloyd and Any Kaufman in Taxi were close, but Robin was next level
There will never be another like him. Truly one-of-a-kind.
Robin Williams idolized Jonathan Winters.
Speaking of Jonathan Winters, he played an excellent straight role as the uncle to Lamont Cranston (Alec Baldwin) in "The Shadow" (1994). Very deft touch for character.
