What is bad about solar panels? Besides that it’s junk now, seems like a rare case. I think solar panels are good supplemental energy. I can live off just 200 watt panel in California.. powers a fridge, all my lights, laptop, Wi-Fi, security camera, and fans with no issue.. basically a $500 setup and as long as I don’t experience a hail storm I won’t have any electricity costs. I don’t think it’s for everyone, but if you own a home, why not build your own little system and avoid paying an electricity company? Solar required for off grid living, id assume this forum in general favor of being off grid, so don’t understand the hate towards it
The bad thing is forced artificial support of it, in the form of taxes and subsidies. Sure, just like windmills, it's great in some places. But that doesn't mean your taxes should pay for it willy-nilly all over the place.
See, this is one reason I have such a problem with Elon Musk. Many of those billions of dollars he has came from rebates and crap funded by taxpayer dollars. But I don't see nary a word criticizing him for this. Most people here love him. So why does he get a pass? Because he trolls libs on Twitter?
I think it's because there's an assumption that he's part of the WH team, using our taxes to help save the country. And trolling libs, where he shines.
Twitter is still not perfect, but it's better because of him, and has helped steer the MSM and their followers to accept conservatives on the platform.
Obviously that's just me, and I'm sure not everybody agrees totally. But even people who want to criticize him can see that there are many worse offenders like the Pritzkers, Whitmers, Gates and Newsomes.
I think, as one's own personal choice, it's terrific, if that's what the homeowner wants.
As a replacement for coal-fired or nuclear power? Bad! Same with wind. These things are more of a detriment to the environment than coal or nuclear power.
Somewhere, on a shelf, hidden away from the public, is a low/no cost energy solution, that will never see the light of day.
Obammy’s grift program gave millions to Solyndra in Colorado. The company coasted for a short time, paid off their senior execs with millions and exited leaving a toxic waste dump for taxpayers to mop up.
Fucking criminals all...from the halfrican to the grifter corporates.
Add air conditioning and the watts go way up. You can buy a pallet of solar panels pretty cheap. And now they have those all in one charger/converter doodads for fairly cheap.
Lithium batteries are very cheap for what they provide and how long they last.. for example 200 amp hour battery going for $600.. you have 200ah that’ll last you 10 years.. $60 a year.. barely over $1 a week in the long run
Yeah look on Amazon the price has gone down significantly just this year.. the chart of lithium looks exactly like bitcoin..
those batteries look nice but very pricey, seems like a luxury high end American company..
Is it regular lithium batteries? Those things fall off sharply around 3-5 years for most regular charge/discharge use cases, ie an iPhone. Lead acid isn’t great either but I’ve found it is possible to revive some with an electric welding machine. It’s kind of unsafe but does work
Yes it’s just lifepo4 lithium batteries but the technology just keeps advancing quickly. They advertise like 5000-40000 cycles… iPhone is getting discharged to 0% daily.. if you have enough panels you shouldn’t discharge it that much making it last a lot longer

I definitely agree, appreciate all the responses.

Don't hate the player, hate the game

Solar panels are toxic. "Pollutants such as lead and carcinogenic cadmium... washed out by rainwater" (source)(https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelshellenberger/2018/05/23/if-solar-panels-are-so-clean-why-do-they-produce-so-much-toxic-waste/?sh=5d19a33e121c)
They also end up "in landfills, where components that contain toxic heavy metals such as selenium and cadmium can contaminate groundwater.” Source https://www.pacificresearch.org/rooftop-solar-panels-stacking-up-in-landfills/
"Experts" might promote solar, but they also promote trans fats, vaccines, and worse. "The truth would put 99% of humanity in the hospital. Q"
Interesting thanks for sharing

We've been living offgrid with 480 watts of panels for 8 years. Fuck the grid.
Nice that’s decent amount for 2 people

Batteries are still way expensive.

That is cheap! I have seen mostly 100ah for about 1000 bucks! There ARE used Chinese recon batteries for cheaper. But still better than a car battery.
Edison Batteries are the best but really expensive and HEAVY!
