Correct... these holsters were first introduced for law enforcement and military use, but the idea caught on and that design is now available in the civilian markets as well. I see them at gun shows all the time. Now to be sure, people do choose to open-carry, but I prefer concealed carry in keeping with my "gray man" philosophy. Be invisible, don't call attention to yourself in manner of dress, don't wear clothing with NRA or gun brand logos, avoid crowds, and blend into the background. But also be one of the most dangerous people in any situation. https://www.thebugoutbagguide.com/gray-man-theory/
Agree with this 100%. Visible weapons show your limits and also time differentials in a situation. With her back holster and gender, I am guessing 2-3 seconds holster to fire. Side arm on hip especially with the shape of a womans hip would be a much faster draw for her
It is a nice gun though
Open carry says “shoot me first”.
Typically yes. If you are in lefty bangerville. If she is in a highly armed high trust area, it does provide a lot of deterrent value. The satanists are normalizing pedos and transvestites by shoving it in your face. If everyone is visibly wearing a gun, then it normalizes it for the next generation so they are not hysterical. How many cop shows claim they found an unregistered firearm. They are teaching people that a gun registry is normal. We must be on offense or each generation gets worse
Yes, the Makarov is a superb weapon, especially in 9mm Makarov. They introduced some in .380 (or 9mm Kurz) but I think that round is not worthy for self defense. The Makarov was a Soviet copy of the German Walther PPK, it breaks down and reassembles the same way, but the finish is less elegant than a Walther. But it reliably goes BANG, and I'll take that over cosmetics any day.
The Makaov became standard issue in Warsaw Pact nations under Soviet influence and can be found still in use in those countries. It's a nice double-action auto that can be easily controlled by almost any shooter, male or female.
If you decide to get one, go for the ones chambered for the 9mm-Makarov ammo; it has a higher muzzle velocity and stopping power... IMHO of course.
Another recommendation if you choose to carry a makarov specifically.

MUCH more ergonomic and faster mag changes when the mag release is in the same area literally every gun since the 80's has had it. Makarovs are good, don't get met wrong. But the butt bag release is it's one downside.
Luckily someone fixed that with a set of ergonomic grips.
That's precisely why I quit carrying my Mak, that annoying butt mag release. But in a pinch it will do.
And thanks for the link, I may have to get one of those.
Oh, yeah, I don't discount the little .22, especially the magnum version, but the .380 (in my personal opinion) is a "mouse gun" round. Either go all the way to 9mm Parabellum or go with .45 or a .38. A .380 used to be my daily carry piece, but I grew out of it. But yeah, a .22 in the right hands can be lethal.
Don't know about a retention holster, but that is where I carry (concealed), and I can get first shot on target in 1.5 or less. Honestly not sure how gender (either of the two : ) ) enters into it.
Comfort basically. For example, most people tend to either carry on their hip, or their appendix. The hip is the go too for most people, but at the same time there IS a difference between male and female. It's much more common for men to wear loose and baggy clothing that's "breathable". Ergo, putting a gun on your hip is much more comfortable and ergonomic for a man since he has more leeway in his pants to make room for a gun.
Contrast this with women, who tend to wear more form fitting or "skintight" clothing. Not as much room anything with an actually concealed holster/gun.
Likewise, for those that choose appendix carry, women tend to have a bit of an advantage over men. Given it's location, women can more comfortably carry a gun and holster since they don't have to worry about their genitals like a man would.
Ever sit for a few hours with a 3 pound gun grinding into your groin because you wore pants that were just slightly too tight when you added the gun into your ensemble?
Yeah, not a fun time.
So yeah, gender does make a difference when making these considerations. It's why there are whole companies dedicated to gender specific conceal carry wear. I really don't know how it works, but there do exist yoga pants, leggings, skirts, etc. for women that have some form of sorcery cast on them to enable them to hide full size 1911 or glocks without it printing.
Blows my mind, but they exist.
Likewise, there's men's wear that's designed to take advantage of the "looser" styles that men tend to favor in order to basically carry around a small armory with you. (I've seen some coat, shirt, pants combos that basically let you carry enough guns and ammo to arm a small squad with a full size pistol and a couple hundred rounds each).
So yeah, gender is a factor in these things. It's not something people tend to think about, but the differences between men and women (even small differences like difference in dress styles), tends to result in unique patterns that make them different.
