Solar storm on Thursday expected to make Northern Lights visible in 17 states
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center said people wanting to experience an aurora should get away from city lights and that the best viewing times ar…
“The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks has forecast auroral activity on Thursday in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Indiana, Maine and Maryland.”
Most of these States are Northern…so why Maryland? Not surrounding states like Pennsylvania, WV, or Delaware?
It is very odd. Good catch!
Very weird to not have Delaware, CT, PA, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. I could understand not seeing the auroras in NYC, Boston, Philly, and northern NJ with the major light pollution, but the rest of those states are fairly rural outside the major metro areas, so if it would be visible all the way down to Maryland, it should be visible in the every state in the NE.
Weirdly interesting.
Maybe they didn't include those states because then it would add up to more than 17. 🤷
Exactly what I thought! I also thought it odd they specifically mentioned Annapolis, where the US Naval Academy is located. 🤷♀️
...does the ' Philadelphia Experiment ' come to mind ?
Sky event.
