Yea but our reserves are still paid military right? More Army based? The Wagner group seems mostly mercenary style, with no loyalty to a country except to a payday. I could be way off tho.
What I mean though was that you don't want to commit your main fighting force if you don't have to, whether it be reservists or a mercenary group.
Between their own version of reservists and Wagner, Russia was in effect able to demilitarize Ukraine like it set out to do, without committing the main army, which had been saved for the inevitable introduction of NATO weaponry into the fight.
This makes me mad. I have a young niece with a 5 yr daughter. She's in the reserve and may face this call up. Both she and her husband are both in the Army Reserve.
I'll admit I don't know very much about the military, I was just going off the name reserves. By definition, a layman would think they would be held in reserve to be called up when the main forces are almost exhausted...
Against the backdrop of questions about what Wagner PMC will do now, and rumors about its inclusion in the structure of the RF Ministry of Defense, we managed to contact the commander of one of the assault squads of the "Orchestra" Zombie and ask if many agreed to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense?
Nobody. We are united not only by a contract, but also by a common idea: to fight, not to serve a number, to be useful to the Motherland. Many consider us mercenaries, but this is not so. We have more patriotism than others. We fight without sparing our lives. And the Leader unites us in the same way as a common idea unites us. When a fighter gets into MO, he becomes nobody. Just a detail, a screw. When a fighter comes to us, he is surrounded by a structure that makes sure that he has everything. Brotherhood surrounds him, and no one doubts. Even if you are destined to die, then everyone goes to the end - brother for brother. We have every fighter can express their opinion. Of course, decisions are made by the Council of Commanders and the Commander himself, but they listen to the words of the soldiers. And the fighters idolize their commanders for real participation in their destinies, ensuring attention even to personal problems. Now various employers are hanging around here, but one must understand that the basis of the Wagner PMC is Sergey Petrovich and the Commander. They are the soul and brains of Wagner, they united it with their idea, their vigorous activity and work for the result. As Comrade Wagner said: “A good kid is not a profession, we are professionals charged with one idea. And therefore we are the best, working for the conscience and for the good of the Motherland. Therefore, I am either in the Wagner PMC with them, or I will gladly relax at home in front of the TV. And so everyone thinks.

Why are they calling up the reserves before using the regular troops? Seems like a weird move.
Its the thing to do. It's what Russia pretty much did in utilizing Wagner instead of the main forces.

Our reservists are paid, I'm pretty sure.
