The world has been Godless since Adam sinned in the garden. It is ruled by the prince of the power of the air.
That is why believers “are in this world, but not if this world.” God is at work saving His people who were predestinated from the foundation of the world, all for His Glory.
Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty of sin for those who believe in Him, so that those who believe will not suffer eternal punishment but will live eternally with Him. I don't know what you mean when you say that He died to give man back authority over this world. Satan is in control of this world, and in the future the Anti-Christ will establish a one world government and will rule the world for 7 years. At the end of the 7 years, Christ will return to destroy the Anti-Christ and He will establish the millenial kingdom where He (Christ) will rule with an iron fist.
God put man here to have dominion in place of Satan. The earth is the theater for God’s ultimate victory over Satan and the fallen angels. Satan wants to defy God by ruling the earth. So he came to the first couple and tempted them to follow him in rebellion against God. When they fell into sin, God’s purpose for the earth was temporarily thwarted as Adam and Eve came under Satan’s rule. Thus, for the present Satan is recognized as the ruler of this world (John 12:31; 14:30). But God regained dominion through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (John 12:31; Eph. 1:19-23).
God is present in every good thing, and there is much good in the world, there is no good in man himself, it all comes from God, to him we give all glory for every breath we take. I do not know why some come to consciousness of HIM, and others do not. That is a mystery to me. We all sin, mostly by choice, but we have a chance to be forgiven and amend, and sin no more. I do not think that this "age" is anymore sinful than past ages, it's just that Satans weapons have become more powerful , through media and culture and availability to more people, but the sins are the same. There is no danger for those who accept Jesus as Lord and the son of God, who is also one being with the Father. I refuse to be afraid, on a daily basis, and when it comes into my mind, I pray to reject it and remind myself. I don't think a physical church is needed for a religious practice, but it is like a school, to give us lessons in Faith through scripture, fellowship and praise, but to be the best student we have to do our homework. Pray daily, give thanks for your life, even adversity, because God will test our Faith. Pray, read the Scriptures, do not overthink them, but discuss with others of Faith. Take an inventory often, review it, educate yourself to the 7 deadly sins, practice the virtues. I learned a little saying, that EGO stands for " Easing God Out". Jesus Christ walks with us in the form of the Holy Spirit, while his body experienced a human and mortal death, HE has shown us that due to his sacrifice, for us, that he had power over Satan in his resurrection, and that we too will have that gift of resurrection with faith. Practice your Faith, just as you would practice a skill or a health regimen. Take your soul to the gym, read a psalm, give thanks as often as you remember, for a drink of water or a feast, for the hands that scrub and toil, and do it cheerfully, remember that God gives us everything, and HE does so without effort, so give thanks without effort, read his book without effort. Spend time with him and see it as a wonderful respite from daily toil. I refuse to be afraid. I am sad that innocents suffer, I am sad and angry sometimes, but he comforts me.
...regardless of the "world's" opinion of God's existence, he is still in control...
God sees...
...and remembers.
The World is not godless, only a few powerful satanic minions are. 🙏🏻
We need to remind ourselves that we are part of God's "remnant". In the world but not of the world. A light to bring others into the light with Him.

We are fighting against the pagan morality -- the world (Western Civilization) is being re-paganized.
