sorry for repossessing your beachfront property ... here, have a pod
That's about enough out of you - now shut up and eat your bugs...
LOL!
If you are going to donate, find local organizations in Maui and not places like Red Cross or other larger entities. There are plenty of local operations that are getting the funds to where they are needed.
Exactly. Or if you know someone going (whom you trust), give them some money and tell them to spend/share with locals on whatever is needed. That's what I did. Gave as much as I could and trust that he'll put it to good use.
Good for you. Ignite A Life and the Maui Food Bank are helping on the ground handing out supplies. Anyone local is better than going with larger scammers like Federal NGOs and the Red Cross.
Is Family Life Center one of those?
I think so. There is also the Maui Food Bank. Maui Cardiology is also connected with distribution - especially trying to get medicine in. Not sure if they are taking donations but they may be able to direct you - they are involved with Ignite A Life that is helping on the ground. Hope that helps. I don't have the numbers but they would be places to start. The main thing is to tell people to donate to organizations in and from Maui and not outsiders.
Thank you for your very helpful reply.

We have a family friend who lives in AZ now but is from Maui (where he was born and raised). He flew back earlier this week to check on family and help relief efforts. I've been texting him all week. His first hand account is pretty shocking. Property damage is way worse than what is being reported. Death count also way worse. And most troubling is the amount of children still missing.
Dore's comment in this video about NOT cancelling trips to Maui is spot on. From the ground, I'm hearing that they desperately want people coming, not for tourist dollars, but for any help they can provide in terms of strapping on some boots and delivering water, fuel, whatever they possible can to volunteer help.
Local g0v and fema have utterly failed on this one. Tragic.
But, but Biden gave each displaced person from the Maui fire $700 each while send Billions of $$ to Ukraine.
Quick assembly pre-fab units that can be assembled in 3-5 minutes by one person with a forklift. These were sent from Hungary. That's Victor Orban's country: a company called Continest (see the Tucker interview -Hungary is more Sanctioned than Russia, even though they are members of NATO, because they are Christians that don't want a bar of Liberalism and uncontrolled immigration). Here is a company helping the people of Maui. So that's interesting. Apparently, there is real aid coming from all over the world in an organic way, and these are modular homes (not like the fake aid given to Ukraine, i.e. weapons - that liberal term is such a misnomer).
I heard on the grapevine that baby products - nappies, milk etc.- are especially in short supply on Maui, and everything comes by Jetski to a beach - you could hear the fella asking if they need more propane.
Good point made by the presenter that there has been nothing from FEMA, the military, and even FJB who gave everyone a measly 700 dollars (while sending billions to Ukraine) when arguably the whole economy is now sharing and not buying, as even there is nothing to buy - but here is a Hungarian Company kicking ass to help whole families - to give them much needed privacy and security.
The Dore crew recommend that people now go to Maui in person and help and spend money like a proper tourist, to start the very basic economy. From experience of being a 'tourist' in struggling third-world countries: My advice, after packing your bag with milk and diapers for the flight over, is to hire a guide with a car, or a motorbike, and support his family, paid daily, for a good while. Remember to buy them lunch at their aunties bread stall and give the coconut-milk guy some money, and send the guide home every night with plenty meat or fish for the family. So, special trips to a local fishing village, or something like that. Also, pay them well for their services, and get them to show you the real Maui. Maybe surfers can go early before the season starts? Now is the true time of Aloha.
