I mean he "bought" his own compound in Guyana, had access to a lot of cyanide, had politicians visiting him and ruled with an iron fist.

The visiting Politicians were on a fact finding mission based on family complaints.

He did have some pull in politics while in the U.S. but he went batshit and had to run.
