Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Loved Karen Carpenter, voice as smooth as honey, shame her short life was so tragic.
Fil, from Wings of Pegasus, has done a few videos on Karen (and The Carpenters). Here's just a couple:

Edit to mention that the second video is more drum solos.
I still listen to The Carpenters. I'm introducing my grandchild to old music. Just eight months old and she will let you know if she doesn't like the music.
I do, too. Karen was one of a kind.
Bless you for passing on good music to the grandkid. I'll bet she'd really like the Andrews Sisters, no tighter harmonies before or since!
Thankfully her parents are music people so she listens to a variety. We have a playlist just for her. Some songs she sings to and others she chills if she's fussy. No child TV for her. We haven't listened to the Andrew's sisters yet they were way before my time. It's usually 60 & 70s, Elvis, R&B & country. Country genre is a wide area, we don't listen to the mainstream crap.
That's adorable. What songs does she sing or chill to?
I'm almost 65, so they were a little before my time, as well. Loved listening to them as a kid when my parents played them and still do! Lot of good music from back then.
The big bands were great. Glen Miller's, In the Mood is one of my favorites. When she gets old enough, teach her to dance swing and the Jitterbug. So much fun and good exercise, too!

Most people don't even know she played the drums, much less, how awesome she was at it!
That video sure did show how thin she was getting, though. From the back, you could see every rib through her shirt. She was only 5'4", probably had to hold on to something when the wind picked up. Hard to believe she survived seven more years like that. So sad.
I don't remember the source now, watched or read about her life. Her mom was the cause of her anorexia. Her brother was the favorite and Karen couldn't live up to her mom's standards. It's a testament to Karen's character that she didn't resent her brother. Parent's can do some 💩 to their kids.
I assume monarch until proven otherwise
So true!
