I don't even have to read this article. We talked about this in my Homeschool Group that I'm in about how it's everybody's personal decision to make, but are you willing to be the reason that everybody else has to follow State rules? Ohio now has a some kind of deduction a tax deduction and we urge people not to take it because it's overstepping their boundaries, and if you allow it to happen it will continue to happen more and more until you can't get yourself out of it, like the situation we're in with Biden and this damn Administration
RIGHT! I recall Betsy DeVos saying years ago that if you take public funds for your school, then you will be considered a public school. I'd like to believe she was warning us, not threatening us. Either way, DON'T TAKE PUBLIC FUNDS.
That's like saying, don't accept tax break checks like what trump gave. becuase then you are working for the government. That money was yours to begin with. Now you just get to choose what to do with it instead of it being chosen for you.
Unfortunately, that is not true. By using money funneled THROUGH the government for your homeschool, you make yourself beholden TO the government for the way THEIR money is spent on education.
It's absolutely an issue that needs to be fixed, but until there's a better way, homeschoolers should not seek to invite the government into our schools.
Yes, and it has NO ties to the way I educate my kids. Monies dogeared for education DO come with strings attached. I don't want my homeschool to fall under the purview of the DOE, therefore I will NOT accept funds from the government which pertain to education.
That won't be in the law, the administrating agency will create all those hoops and hurdles after the law forces them to give up some of "their" money.
Nope, dig it out, we did. There is an absolute difference in an overpayment refund and earmarked funds for a specific item "education". You want the grant for the well? You have to prove it is all installed and working by Oct 4th.
Instead of throwing away a good idea because of potential pitfalls, come up with ways to remove those pitfalls... school choice is still better than what we have now.
Not potential, it's the law that specific tax funds can only be spent on that item.
Are you okay with the money going to illegals? Nope, then proof of citizenship.
X dollars per kid? Have to prove how many kids you have AND that they DO NOT attend a government school, so personal info must me shared on each child.
Government paid for the education, so it will ensure it is getting what it paid for by required testing, just like the government school kids are tested or audited before a diploma is "granted".
The reason for not taking public funds is the same reason as why they put up signs in the national parks to not feed the wildlife. Except when you become dependent on it you will more likely submit to rules to keep it coming.

Aren't you funneling money through the government when you get a tax break check ?

Can you show me a a proposed law that says it would?
It will have to be proven you have kids and they are school age.

The tax money of parents who homeschools their children needs to be returned to those parents, period.
I agree, but not without some form of protection from government interference as to how you conduct your homeschooling.
Instead of throwing away a good idea because of potential pitfalls, come up with ways to remove those pitfalls... school choice is still better than what we have now.
We have school choice today. I choose home schooling. Your idea would be okay if it did not sink the rest of us with you.
So pay for schools that I don't attend because that's not a socialist idea
