Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area

Does anyone use silk sheets? I'm asking because I've read they are great for temperature regulation, summer or winter (hot or cold). My impression of silk sheets is playboy mansion or equivalent setting. To be sure they are popular for other reasons. I've got a great mattress but I freeze in the winter. It's a cool gel all foam mattress I've had many years and still in great condition and love it during the summer because it keeps me cool. If you know you know! Women of a certain age get hot at night and if you live with one of us you know what I mean. As my husband says, I'll turn the AC on if it's fifty degrees outside. However when I first get into bed it's like laying on a block of ice. Doesn't matter how high the heat is, takes your body temperature to warm the mattress.
My winter routine and it's still not enough. I layer between mattress and sheet: very warm velvety fleece type blanket, another blanket folded from feet to mid calf, mattress cover. Still have to warm bed with heating pad. When I first got the mattress I don't remember this being an issue. I'm older and my feet stay cold in winter so it's possible it's as much me as the mattress.
Any warm bedding tips appreciated.
I'm of a certain age too, sister. I have the same kind of mattress you're talking about and I love it, except for that being cold at first in the winter thing. What has worked for me is flannel sheets. I still have to stick my legs out into the air if I heat up during the night, but usually that is short-lived. I don't have the cold feet issue though. My favorite flannel sheets came from Mike Lindell. Love my MyPillow flannel sheets! :)
Thanks I'll check out those flannel sheets.
I used to use a mix of bag balm with some sprinkles of cayenne pepper, and rub my feet, then put on socks. From my ankles up i have terrible sweats at night, it's part of the Lyme disease, but my feet feel like ice cubes, due to nerve damage in my spine, the circulation seems fine enough. The pepper works, I dont know if you can get bag balm where you live, its a local product that farmers have used for decades, but the cayenne can also be mixed with olive or coconut oil, (probably better anyway) . It should heat up your tootsies good. I tried silk sheets, they do not hold up with a washing and drying, and the way I sweat, there is a need to change them daily. They make sheets now with bamboo, I have not tried them yet, they are supposed to be the best for hot sleepers.
Thanks I'll try the cayenne. I prefer oils and I'm sure I can find it it's called arnica in the medicinal world (I say cayenne also). I've considered taking cayenne in capsules turmeric doesn't help much like it does with the majority of people. I've got fibromyalgia and other chronic pain problems including nerve pain. I hadn't thought of nerves making feet cold that's a great tip. I've been considering bamboo sheets. I love jersey knit sheets but can't find any locally. Bamboo clothes are so soft!
Had silk sheets. Too slippery for me. But silk pajamas may meet your needs, they insulate very well.
Thanks I asked because I'm very hesitant about silk. I can see it sliding around. Probably not user friendly for the average person.
My dog warms the space between me and my dear husband. Not a solution for all though!
I remember those days years ago. When we had our first dachshund she kept the bed so warm. I keep my daughter's dog but he's rarely in my bed unless it's a stay over.
