Sorry, but if you are outnumbered, there is nothing that is going to save you unless they lose the will to continue after a few heads explode. The only way you will survive is in numbers. Unless you are really familiar with the surrounding countryside, bugging out is a really bad solution if it isn't the absolute last option. I don't care how good you are at fieldcraft, if there are numbers that have even a modicum of skills and are determined, then your best bet is a well defended home with other people with you.
Testing them during the day does not attract attention, unless you have neighborrs very close. I changed the oil, spark plug and air filter in all four generators and tested the transfer switches. Overkill but I expect them to start when I need them. The worst time to find out the oil was bad or it leaked out is when the engine seizes…
I keep my solar generators on utility power all the time for vital equipment like battery chargers and my portable ham equipment.

I live in a rural area in the mountains. My neighbors down the hill are all solid conservative, and we watch out for each other. There is only one way on and out of my place unless you are part mountain goat (or know where the deer trails are), so anyone trying to sneak in won't make it without tripping a few alarms.
Ours checks itslef every week BUT ever few weeks my husband stands outside to make sure the generator kicks on.
