You're right; it's German not English. Ya know, I thought I checked it before writing all that, but I found my earlier reference and it was a German-English dictionary after all.
So it could still potentially be Trump's reference, but I got the bread crumbs wrong. Hopefully we'll get to find out.
I picked up on it thanks to eagle_eyes2020 who is a native German speaker. Prior to that I thought stollen was just a delicious German Christmas bread. Which had me hoping it was signaling a nice Christmas surprise.
