So, who were the other 44? What year did they change over? When I count the first 44, it doesn't end up in what most would consider the right spot. If I take out the last 11, it ends up in the mid 50s.

The House does not count Speakers the way we count Presidents. The Speaker’s number corresponds to the session of Congress.

Technically speaking under the popular concept both McCarthy and Johnson are the 118th SOTH.
