What is honestly the best way to insulate someone? Putting them into a position where they have to lie is just opening yourself up to failure.
The best way to insulate someone... is to not involve them in the first place. You can sign as Q+ in an alphabetic code (DJT, for example) but misdirect so when Trump is pressured to answer about it, he would be insulated and not actually know.
I know that if I had a face for the public to look at, and I were running an operation like this that relies on keeping that face insulated from my maneuvers, I would make less-than-subtle implications but have zero contact with the face of the plan.
Maybe Trump knew something at the beginning, but hasn't since and Q+ is a misdirection to keep them looking in the wrong spot to try and implicate someone squeaky clean.
