Imagine filing a lawsuit as a porn producer, arguing that you shouldn't be required to verify ages of viewers, and that doing so would harm your business.
Have to show a card to buy liquor
This is the way imo. Unlike globohomo Nikki Haley's "show ID to use the internet", it should be "show ID to access porn", just like you'd have to to buy wine online etc. Furthermore, the internet is the digital public square and just like in public you have certain establishments which MUST card you for entry (bars, clubs, whorehouses where legal, etc) and a most important point is this is illegal outside of those establishments. You can't just sell beer on the street or have a stripper pole on the corner.
This will lead to porn being cleaned up off the clearweb and only accessable to age-verified patrons on porn sites. And surely there will be penalties for someone who distributes porn outside of porn sites, say on twitter, or wherever. As for twitter they would need to set up a portal or something into "twitterxxx" if users want that content still... because as it is now children are logging on twitter every day and using it like pornhub, and hell, children are using pornhub too.
The systems are already in place---go buy some vapes or alcohol online right now, you will have to enter your name, DOB, address etc, and in 30secs it will run your info through some background check type of thing and verify your age. Maybe this could also be abused but it's a start
You don’t think that there would be a black market???
This would sort of be a special case though, seeing as it's already free, and the only people who would be "clients" of said black market would be underage...or married men trying to prevent any sort of paper trail, idk, I still think the idea is the best way forward.
This is terrible. This is where my libertarian values split. No. Gtfo of my life government. Protect your own kids. You, the parent, do the parenting.
Agreed. I prevent my children from accessing harmful material. Porn. Jihadi websites. Illegal drug manufacturing. Etc etc
It's not the state's job. It's mine.
Did you hear about FCC taking over full Internet?
While I agree with the notion of parents protecting their own kids, problem is that the parents have been imprisoned in the slave job just to meet ends, pay mortgage, etc. just don't have bandwidth to monitor kids. That's one of the reason to send them away to schools where God knows what they teach the kids these days. Question is how young is too young to watch porno without damaging them? In my opinion, it depends. But age is just a general rule that seem to fit most common kids. If we don't have such preliminary restrictions in place the cabal employed by the Satan can run amuck which can be clearly seen these days and damage the kids permanently. Idle mind is a dangerous one if not properly trained to do right things.
I’d submit it’s unsafe at any age. I bear the scars from its past use.
I can't buy anything on Amazon that requires ID input because their system doesn't work. If Amazon can't get their ID system to work, I don't expect anyone else to be able to manage that properly, either. I believe in FREEDOM. All more beauracracy does is make everyone's life more difficult.
I agree. I've always wondered why porn doesn't use a separate 3-letter extension like .xxx for their websites. Then parents and schools would easily be able to block it.
And when it's pornography in school libraries, the leftists make out like it's Nazi Germany with book banning if efforts are made to remove them.
They'll just keep accessing obscene materials in school libraries.
I think this is a great first step. Pornography is a cancer on our society and rots the minds of men. I used to be pretty liberal on it but as time goes on the damage that it has and is causing is becoming more evident.
